Johnson City was well represented at the District 25 AAA/District 26 AAA Area track meet on Wednesday, April 18 at Converse-Judson High School. Six individuals advanced to the Regional Championships, as well as two relay teams. The Region 4 AAA Track and Field Championships was held on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 at Converse-Judson high school.
The Johnson City Lady Eagle softball team fell to the Karnes City Lady Badgers in a best of three game situation over the weekend. JC took the first game 3-0 on Friday but lost the next two games 0-2 and 0-5 on Saturday. The Lady Eagles finished the season as District runner-up, with a total record of nine wins, 21 losses, and one draw. The air held an electric feeling Friday night, something only high-school playoffs can bring.
28 Junior High Eagles flew out of their nests and soared into Llano Saturday to compete against Llano, Brady, Lampasas, Blanco, Junction and Burnet. There were 177 matches played from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and JC had matches going the entire time. 14 of our 28 Eagles medaled and most finished in the top five places.
LBJ High School Art Students have been creating and showing their art all year long with the direction of art teacher, Diane Hudson. Over the past month they traveled to competition where their work was chosen as some of the best in the state. LBJ High School Students win State VASE is a statewide curricular opportunity for all schools in Texas.
m traveled to Blanco to take on their county rivals on Tuesday, April 17. Johnson City fell 4-7 after seven innings, losing the second and final regular season meeting between the teams. JC hosted the Ingram Lady Warriors on Friday, April 20 for the final game of the district season, and won 16-0 in three innings. Five empty innings passed by before either team got a run on the board, starting with the Blanco Lady Panthers.
Johnson City School Board has held several meetings during the month of April to finalize staffing changes for the ISD with another meeting scheduled for noon Thursday to consider teacher contract renewals and separation agreements. Most notably the school board accepted the retirement of High School Principal, Julie Storer. Continuing the streak which began in 2003, the Johnson City FFA wildlife team recently qualified for the State contest which will be held at the Texas Tech Campus in Junction on April 24, 2018. The team of Grey Grote, Brinley Portie, Brett Sultemeier, and Colby Turner placed fourth in the Area contest at the Angelo State University Campus in San Angelo on April 3.
The Lady Eagle softball team did not let the fact that they were playing on Friday 13 scare them. Instead, the Lady Eagles ended the game two innings early, defeating the visiting Comfort Deer 14-4 in five frames. Comfort scored a lone run in the first inning, hoping to gain a win.
The 2018 Eagle Tennis season ended with a flurry of extremely competitive and hard-fought victories and defeats. Congratulations to Braulio Icaza and Juan Guerrero on winning the 2018 Llano Spring Smash Boys Varsity Doubles Championship on Friday, March 2. Determination, effort, and smart play earned these two Eagle leaders first place in varsity competition soundly defeating quality opposition from Llano, Brady, and San Saba. A storm was brewing, adding an eerie effect to the skies for a high-stakes game of baseball between Johnson City and the Comfort Bobcats on Friday, April 13. The Deer took an early lead which the Eagles were not able to overtake, eventually falling 2-4 in seven innings. Comfort wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
