The Johnson City Eagles Baseball team opened the 2015 season Wednesday night in Johnson City against Regents High School from Austin. Coach Casey Buaas had to put off opening day because of the basketball playoffs, but his team came out red hot Wednesday night defeating Regents 16-1.
Payton Scott started on the mound for the Eagles and pitched 4 innings and allowed no hits and 1 unearned run.
LBJ Student Council traveled to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio on January 22nd to take items for the Soldier and Family Support Center.
The first stop was Wal-Mart where students purchased fruit and other snacks for the wounded soldiers and their families. Upon arrival at Fort Sam, students made a gigantic bowl of fruit salad and warmed tortillas for the noon meal.

The 76th Blanco County 4-H and FFA Youth Show begins Thursday, January 15th at the Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City. This year there are more than 525 entries. These leaders of tomorrow put in many hours, and often times, a lot their hard-earned money working towards a successful project and show.
The Johnson City boys played in Comfort over the Holidays and won the Comfort Tournament. The Eagles defeated Mason 54-45 in Pool Play and were 2-1 in their pool and advanced to the Championship Game based on the tie breaker points.
The Eagles were led by Gage Schnitz, Will Rutherford and Wade North with all 3 players scoring 12 points.
The Lady Eagles are off to a good start to the season with an 8-8 record going into the holidays. The Lady Eagles are led by the Capra sisters, with Annamarie averaging 9.9 points a game and Audrey averaging 10.2 points per game. Kayli Trahan is contributing 8.8 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game.
The Ladies competed well in the Johnson City Tournament finishing third.
Enrollment remains a top concern for Johnson City ISD as the number of total students dropped from last year. At Monday’s school board meeting the campus principals also presented their improvement plans and addressed potential new discipline policies.

Current enrollment is 656 students. The district is down by 29 students from last year.
Johnson City faced off against county rival Blanco in a low scoring thriller Friday night. Blanco came out on top after four long quarters, final score Johnson City 14, Blanco 21.
“Hard fought contest by both teams. I am proud of the way the Eagles played” Said Coach Cloninger after the game.
The Eagles had a tough night moving the ball against Blanco’s defense, gaining a total of 101 yards rushing and 88 yards passing.
