Children of all ages are invited to Fredericksburg Thurs., June 21, to participate in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson at the Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center (1006 S. State Hwy. 16, Fredericksburg TX). The lesson is free, and children are required to register to participate. The Regular Meeting of the Johnson City ISD School Board referenced a number of important items, including: installing new trustees, election of officers, consideration of 2018-2019 Student Code of Conduct and JCISD Student Handbook, and discussion of the 2018-2019 JCISD Budget. Johnson City seniors Hailey Bickley and Alexis McDougal are the first recipients of the Science Mill’s new student employee scholarship program. They were each awarded a $500 scholarship to be used towards their post-secondary education as a reward for their outstanding work at the museum. For the first time in history, Johnson City sent a representative to the UIL State Gold Tournament. Zack Hernandez has been Johnson City’s only golfer for the past four years. Zack got his start by playing golf with his father who taught him the basics and he says “my dad and grandfather were the two people who started my love of golf.” Freshman year, Zack began his high school golf career.
Colby Turner, a Johnson City native will be traveling to Abilene, Texas, June 9-16 to compete in the Texas High School Rodeo Association State Finals. The state finals rodeo is an annual, week-long event where high school students across Texas and surrounding states come and compete.
