The annual back-to-school health fair at the First United Methodist Church drew a crowd, as usual, and sent everyone home with an armload of freebies and a head full of new health information. High on the goodies list was the table filled with free backpacks from Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Opening Johnson City ISD Board of Trustees held a Special Meeting on July 30. JCISD Board President Shelly Wemohs called the meeting to order, and all trustees were present. Proposed 2018-2019 Tax Rate Assistant Superintendent Erin Fasel presented the proposed tax rate. Lucky Leaf 4-H officers went to an officer training event at the VFW Hall in Wimberly on June 19, 2018 the program was presented by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agents in Blanco, Caldwell and Hays counties. The club officers from neighboring counties were present at this event. We learned the roles of each officer and had fun doing it.
When talking to Senor Cicero Alexander Rust III (better known as C.A.) about his career teaching, he will take you on a wonderful journey of many adventures, verbally painting pictures so that one can easily imagine every intricate detail, as though you were there with him. Rust began his teaching career in Floresville, where he taught English from 1979-88. “When I left Floresville, I didn’t think I could have a better teaching career,” Rust said.
JCISD held a Regular Board Meeting on July 9. Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the meeting to order and the board approved the Consent Agenda which included minutes, monthly expenditures, and reports. District Steering Committee on District Needs Assessment JCISD Superintendent Richard Kolek recognized and thanked all members of the District Steering Committee.
Grey Grote, of the Johnson City FFA Chapter, was awarded a $20,000 scholarship, sponsored by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the 90th annual Texas FFA State Convention held July 9-13 in Fort Worth. Grote was awarded for his qualifications in academic achievement, leadership, Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs, involvement in FFA Career and Leadership Development Events, and a personal interview.
Members of the Johnson City FFA chapter recently attended the Texas FFA convention in Fort Worth. Willow Grote, Kelan Painter, Westin Perrenoud, Logan Sadler, Kaitlyn Sisson, Brett Sultemeier, and Rylee Weirich worked together July 9-13 to expand their horizons and enrich each other’s leadership skills. The Johnson City Library is a busy place in the summer! Here are some highlights of activities from Thursday, July 12 through Thursday, July 20: THURSDAY, JULY 12, 3:00 pm Continuing the Library’s ongoing summer photography project, we have scheduled an adult and teen “field trip” to the A. Smith Art Gallery in Johnson City to view a new exhibit entitled “The Street”.
Cicero A. Rust III, a resident of Blanco, has established an endowed scholarship in the Department of Modern Languages at Texas State University with a donation of $25,000. Rust established the scholarship in honor of his former English students at Floresville High School, where he began his teaching career, and also his former Spanish and English students at Lyndon B.
“The 2018 Johnson City 7on7 Team gained great experience and will use this as a spring board for a season to remember this fall. Special thanks to all the parents and fans that came to cheer on the team and supported fundraising efforts. Coaches Baxter Hurlbut, Laramie Blackwell, and Brett Harris did a phenomenal job.
