The Blanco County Appraisal District Board approved a budget to be sent to entities for approval which then will be presented at a public hearing at their regular meeting later this month.
Chief Appraiser Candice Fry presented the proposed budget to the board. She took out the budget item for online mapping which reduced the 2017/2018 budget by $17,000.
Johnson City volunteers are providing free lunches to all children three days a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday — from June 5th through July 28th at the First United Methodist Church.
It’s another year of the Kids’ Lunch Club program, bridging the summer gap for children who depend on the school lunch program, but who lose that source of nutrition when school is out.
An upcoming short film will have some local icons featured. “Cotton,” a short film project by Producer and Director, Tyler Russell, used Johnson City Police Cars and Odiorne Feed Store hats in the production filmed on a Cypress Mill ranch.
The film follows Sheriff Cotton, a small-town Texas Sheriff played by George Hardy and the hot-headed but good hearted Deputy Shanks, played by Judd Lormand.
“I’m kinda the peacekeeper.” Says Hardy about his character.
At their May 23 court session, Commissioners held a workshop about financing the South County Annex. They also discussed changes in their plans to purchase a computer aided dispatch system for the Sheriff’s Department.

Jamie Petronella, the mother of the 15-month-old girl who died last year, will spend 30 years in prison.
Through a plea deal, the 24-year-old Petronella pleaded guilty last Wednesday, May 17, to first-degree felony injury to a child in connection to the death of her daughter, Sunny Bort. The charge stemmed from her omission to seek medical help for her 15-month-old child.

The City Council held a heated Public Hearing at Monday night’s special meeting. Johnson City residents filled the City Park Building to express their disapproval at rezoning two residential lots into multi-family zones.

The district’s board of trustees met May 9, 2017, and named Richard Kolek as the lone finalist to take over the superintendent role for Johnson City ISD. Kolek has spent 24 years in education including teaching and administrative experience. He is currently the Deputy Superintendent for Taylor ISD, a title he has held for 5 years.
Commissioners held their regular Court Session on Tuesday, May 9. In the meeting, it was announced that City of Blanco paid their fees for County Dispatch Services; Commissioners approved a lease of the Old Blanco County Jail; and the contract from Fromberg Associates LTD was approved for construction of the South County Annex.

In an informational agenda item, Judge Bray announced that City of Blanco paid in full their dues to Blanco County for use of Dispatch Services.
The votes have been tallied and Johnson City has spoken.
Dawn Capra has been selected for a third term as Mayor with 199 votes, defeating Tim Vasquez who had 143 votes according to tabulation totals posted by election officials.

Three candidates ran for two seats on the Johnson City ISD School Board. According to results posted by election officials, Cristol Carbary Corpus and Randy Rutherford secured the two positions up for election with 294 votes and 265 votes respectively., Jeffrey DeLeon did not get re-election for his seat and secured 196 votes.
Rutherford has been on the School Board for six-years while Corpus is a new member to the board.
