Shop Smart on Tax-Free Weekend This weekend (August 11-13) is the Texas Tax-Free Weekend and JCISD has posted the 2017-2018 Dress and Grooming Guidelines, as well as school supply lists for all campuses, so shoppers will be able to save money on supplies and buy clothes that comply with the dress code. Both students and parents are encouraged to take the time to review the guidelines and supply lists before shopping and before the start of school.
First responders in Johnson City got a treat last week when children from the First United Methodist Church knocked on their doors, bearing hand-made thank-you cards and kid-made chocolate chip cookies. About a year ago Blanco County agreed to sell the old Annex at North Ave. F and Pecan St. to the Burkhards and they have been working to create office and retail space. The work has been steady and spaces are rented as they become available. The first space was rented by M Style Salon owned by Morgan Moreland Weeks.
“There’s nothing that speaks to the human soul quite the way music does,” says Caroline Welton, American Heritage Girl, who is helping seniors recover memories with music. Partnered with a program called Music and Memory, Caroline is collecting donations of money and music to provide iPods to residents at LBJ Nursing Home in Johnson City.
