On May 8, 2017 the Johnson City ISD Board of Trustees celebrated Mr. David Shanley’s retirement as the Superintendent of Johnson City ISD. The Board honored Mr. Shanley with a steak dinner prior to the meeting as well as a collector’s time piece to show their appreciation. During the meeting, Board President Shelly Wenmohs, read a resolution in support of Superintendent David Shanley’s years of service to Johnson City ISD.
The Hill Country Science Mill will be able to build a Creekside Monitoring Station interactive exhibit thanks to a $25,000 community development grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Pedernales Electric Cooperative. The monitoring station is one of the final exhibits to be built in the museum’s backyard. Thirteen youth and two adults from the First United Methodist Church helped put in an outside games area, cleaned flower beds, helped put stuff way in the attic and built a picnic table for the JC Library, this past Sunday afternoon. Maggie Goodman, library director, said, “It was amazing how much they got done in so little time, and how beautiful it all looks”!
The Lady Eagles soared into the final playoff spot in District 25AAA by defeating the Lady Warriors from Ingram Tom Moore 19-0 Friday night in Ingram. The Lady Warriors looked like they would give the lady Eagles a game after one inning, neither team scored. In the top half of the second inning the Lady Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate collecting five hits and four walks.
A woman was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in the Valero Restroom. According to Johnson City Police, on Friday April 21 Johnson City Police Sgt. Chad Wiggins responded to a 911 call from the Valero gas station off of HWY 281 in Johnson City. The Valero store clerk called 911 stating that there was an unresponsive Woman in the bathroom on the floor.

Continuing the tradition started in 2004, the Johnson City FFA wildlife team qualified for the State contest which will be held near Childress on April 25. The team of Grey Grote, Brett Sultemeier, Darren Sultemeier, and Colby Turner placed 1st in the Area contest at the Angelo State University Campus in San Angelo on April 11th.
A suspected drunk driver struck the pole to a powerline after midnight, Saturday morning causing power to go out in part of Johnson City. On Saturday morning at approximately 12:30 a.m. Johnson City Officer Josh Bucy responded to a single motor vehicle traffic crash located in the 400 block of Ranchview in Johnson City.
