The Johnson City Library is pleased to announce having won a grant from Tangled Bank Studios, LLC. The grant is outreach for the IMAX movie Backyard Wilderness. At the core of the grant is a beautiful interactive popup exhibit designed for use in libraries. In an engaging and visual way, it allows children to go on a scavenger hunt right in the library, and to absorb the basics of scientific exploration and observation. Denis and Marilyn Bacque moved from Louisiana to a piece of raw land just north of Johnson City. Shortly after their move they acquired their first animal, a young Canadian Elk they named Dottie. Over the years their exotic animal family grew into what it has become today. The land slowly began to take shape as pastures were developed to comfortably graze the land. Over the years the zoo has grown to over six hundred animals.
The 2018 Johnson City Antique Tractor Pull was held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Blanco County Fairgrounds. Antique Oliver, John Deere, Allis Chalmers and International Harvester tractors of all sizes, models and ages lined up for the competition. The large equipment and smaller lawn tractors were part of the tractor pull. Venders provided food and cooling drinks to relieve the heat.
At the June 21, 2018 meeting of the Board of Directors, Ron Fieseler, General Manager of the Blanco-Pedernales Groundwater Conservation District briefed the Board on declining aquifer levels in District monitor wells, decreasing flow in the Blanco and Pedernales Rivers, recent rainfall history, and extended weather forecasts. Fieseler noted that Canyon Lake Water Service Company and the City of Blanco have both declared Drought Stage One last week.

The Casparis family reunion took place on Saturday, June 16 at the LBJ State Park dining hall on the banks of the Pedernales River in Stonewall. The reunion is held every even-numbered year. About 30 family members from across Texas enjoyed a BBQ lunch. It was a smaller than usual group, but there were long-lost cousins and old-timers with stories about Johnson City as it was in the 1940s.
