Blanco County Commissioners held a Regular Meeting on April 9, 2019. All four Commissioners and Judge Brett Bray attended the meeting. A large group of concerned citizens attended the meeting regarding discussion of the proposed Kinder Morgan Pipeline route. Six spoke for a time limit of two minutes each, and Deda Devine was the first to speak.
Eight members of the Blanco County Association of Retired Teachers (BCARE) attended one or more days of the Texas Retired Teachers Association’s State Convention (April 1-2) and the Day at the Capitol (April 3) in Austin. The BCARE members, along with well over a thousand other teachers from around the state, came to visit legislators and advocate for improving retired teachers’ TRS pension and TRS-Health Care.

Johnson City native Bill Krueger was honored by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame last week with the Morgan Wootten Lifetime Achievement Award. The award is presented annually “to honor those who have had a tremendous influence on the game and to provide a national stage to recognize them,” according to the organization’s website.
The Eagle Varsity Baseball team went 1-1 in a two-game home stand at McKinney Field last week, facing two contenders in the highly competitive District 25-3A. On Tuesday the Eagles got behind early as Jarrell sent two balls over the fence with runners on in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Effective immediately, the Blanco County Recycling Center will not accept plastics of any grade, according to the County Commissioner and Blanco Recycling Center Manager Paul Granberg. “Due to market conditions beyond our control, there is no place in the world that will accept plastics,” he said. “At one time we had three buyers who would take plastics.

Ken Nickel, Executive Director of Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center gave a presentation to the Commissioners. According to Nickel, “Ten percent of all children under age 18 have been sexually abused by the age of 18, and 95% of them know the predators.
The Johnson City Record Courier at 110 E Main Street has new office hours. With the exception of being out on assignment, the hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. If no one is here, there will be a note on the door with our expected return time.
According to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center due to a mild and damp winter the wildflowers are making an early start in blooming. Although early, the bluebonnets seem to be bountiful in most areas of the hill country. Lady Bird had a love for the wildflowers of Texas which led her and Helen Hayes to establish the National Wildflower Research Center in 1982.
