Blanco County Sheriff’s office reported that they, in conjunction with Austin Police and Hays County SWAT, executed a search and arrest warrant north of Johnson City on Weddle Road. Johnson City was well represented at the District 25 AAA/District 26 AAA Area track meet on Wednesday, April 18 at Converse-Judson High School. Six individuals advanced to the Regional Championships, as well as two relay teams. The Region 4 AAA Track and Field Championships was held on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 at Converse-Judson high school.
Last month TxDOT conducted a speed study on Main St. to determine whether the speed limit was appropriate for the stretch of HWY 290 that passes through downtown Johnson City. On the morning of March 9, a TxDOT engineer observed traffic in two different locations on Main St. at Live Oak Dr.

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Hall of Fame recently announced the induction of Blanco native Leon Coffee. Coffee is one of 10 Class of 2018 inductees. As a PRCA gold card member and National Finals Rodeo (NFR) barrelman, Coffee has enjoyed a long career in ProRodeo as one of only three cowboys to be both a barrelman and a bullfighter, according to the PRCA. At each Blanco County Commissioner Court meeting, held twice monthly, there is a standing agenda item to consider a burn ban. According to Commissioner Paul Granberg, there are three main considerations for enacting a county-wide burn ban. “The most obvious is common sense,” Granberg said. “We look at existing weather conditions, the forecast, moisture and humidity levels.” “We also take into account the advice of all our local fire chiefs,” he said.

Continuing the streak which began in 2003, the Johnson City FFA wildlife team recently qualified for the State contest which will be held at the Texas Tech Campus in Junction on April 24, 2018. The team of Grey Grote, Brinley Portie, Brett Sultemeier, and Colby Turner placed fourth in the Area contest at the Angelo State University Campus in San Angelo on April 3.
The Lady Eagle softball team did not let the fact that they were playing on Friday 13 scare them. Instead, the Lady Eagles ended the game two innings early, defeating the visiting Comfort Deer 14-4 in five frames. Comfort scored a lone run in the first inning, hoping to gain a win.
