The Lady Eagles Varsity Volleyball team continued their drive toward a district championship with a home win over the Lady Gators of Gateway on Friday.  The Freshmen set the tone for the evening with a two set (25-13,25-22) victory and the JV followed with a two set (25-16, 25-17) win of their own.
A piece of the old west is coming to Blanco this weekend. The annual Pine Moore Days will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-27, at the Buggy Barn Museum at 1915 Main Street. The three-day event is full of wild west fun with entertainment, knife and tomahawk throwing, music, food, vendors and more. Throwers from all over the state, and even some from out of state, will join in for the world championship mounted knife and tomahawk throwing competition.
The widest known and most requested ghost story that Blanco has to offer is about Al Lackey. It is also the most terrifying. Late at night, a couple driving north of Blanco saw someone walking along 281 and decided to offer him a ride. They pulled over to offer the man a ride.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Johnson City Post Office, and to commemorate the occasion, the U.S. Postal Service is partnering with Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park to honor the building’s history and architectural significance. In 1968, President Johnson directed the General Services Administration to construct federal offices, to include a post office, in his hometown of Johnson City.
On Thursday at approximately 5 p.m., a pickup truck towing a trailer with lawnmowing equipment caught fire at the Valero station on Hwy 281 South in Johnson City. According to witnesses, the fire appeared to begin in the engine compartment of the vehicle. Fearing the gas tank in the rear of the truck would explode, there was a hasty evacuation of El Charro restaurant next door; employees told everyone to get up and get out, not to worry about paying their bills.

Located under a beautiful live oak tree next to the 5 Points Market, the Rock Shop is a gem waiting to be discovered in Johnson City by visitors and locals alike. Miriam Poteet runs the shop not just as the co-owner alongside her husband Al, but as a rock enthusiast herself. While the shop has a variety of stones from amethyst to zeolite, and from locations both in Texas and the U.S.
HYE, TEXAS - Live music, food and laughter was present for the first time in a long time- fifty years, to be precise- in the Hye Community Hall on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. The celebration of the renovation and re-opening of the building was witnessed by dozens of visitors, many of whom shared a personal connection with the hall. The Lost Sounds of a Texas Honky Tonk will play each Wednesday night through October, with dinner cooked by Chef Matt Church.
The Blanco County Commissioners Court was called to order at 8:58 a.m. by Judge Brett Bray. All four commissioners were present: Tommy Weir, Emil Uecker, Chris Liesmann, and Paul Granberg. Public comments were heard after the pledge. Donna Klaeger, senior vice president for community services, provided an update on the Community Resource Center (CRC) construction which is expected to open early December with a grand opening event scheduled for Dec.
Grand Opening with tours set for December 12, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Blanco County Community Resource Center (CRC), located at 206 S. Highway 281 in Johnson City, is set to open on Monday, December 2. The CRC will provide office and meeting space for federal, state, and local nonprofit agencies providing services to Blanco County residents. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.
Johnson City City Council held a regular meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. All Council members were present. Mayor Rhonda Stell called the meeting to order at 6 p.m., and Pastor Steve Sanchez of Community Church of the Hills gave the Invocation. Sanchez asked for wisdom for the City Council as they lead, and protection for the members of the Police and Fire Departments.
