The Panther basketball team lost 42-47 to the Harper Longhorns on Tuesday, December 8.
Jacob McCaslin and Tyler Schlinke led the team scoring 10 points each. Trent Dechert sank 5 points, followed by Justin Williams with 4 and Noah Wheeler with 3. The junior varsity beat the Longhorns 37-20. Kaleb Hunter led Blanco scoring 9, followed Chail Knoll with 8 points.
In a close game that was decided in the final second, the Lady Panthers lost their district opener on Tuesday, December 8 to the Comfort Deer, 44-45. Kendall Brock led Blanco scoring 14 points. Lily Avila sank 9. Kaleigh Griffin made 7 points, followed closely by Skylar Wiseman with 6.
The speech and debate team won the sweepstakes award, and math and computer science team members won key events at the Bandera Christmas Classic Academic Meet on Saturday, December 5.
Drew Ritter, a senior, led the speech team with first places in Lincoln-Douglas debate and persuasive speaking. In Lincoln-Douglas debate, Ritter had a perfect record on the day with victories over East Central, San Antonio Memorial, Lockhart, and Three Rivers debaters.
Sophomore Blanco FFA member Jon Lovinggood was named the Blanco FFA Student of the Month for October. Jon was a member of the district and area winning plant ID team. Blanco's plant ID team was the only Area VII team from more than 160 schools to win all 5 competitions this fall.
Blanco PTO's annual poinsettia fund raiser was record setting this year. Sales increased from last year by 184 for a total of 1538 poinsettias. The profits from this fundraiser go to Blanco Elementary for field trips.
The first place winner this year was Carson Riba with sales of 71 plants. Second place went to Trey Vanderford with sale of 51 plants.
The Panther basketball team won consolation in the LBJ 2015 Invitational Basketball Tournament at Johnson City High School on Saturday, December 5. The Blanco squad lost 71-72 in a close game in the first round against the San Antonio Lutheran Mustangs on Thursday, December 3. Jacob McCaslin was on fire for the Panthers, scoring 26 points.
The Lady Panthers won 2nd place in the LBJ 2015 Invitational Basketball Tournament at Johnson City High School on Saturday, December 5. On Thursday, December 3 the Panthers defeated Our Lady of the Hills Hawks of Kerrville 47-22. Kendall Brock was high scorer with 10 points, followed closely by Gracie Edmondson with 9.
The 2015 Panther football season came to an end in Bastrop this past Friday as Blanco was defeated by the East Bernard Brahmas 42-6. The Brahmas jumped out to an early lead despite 3 first half turnovers and then continued their dominant play to close out the game.
In the first quarter both teams had trouble hanging on to the ball as each team's opening drives ended in fumbles.
