Summer band began Monday, July 24, with music and marching clinics. The Blanco High School Marching Band will be lead by Clarissa Derby and Mitchell Barnett. BHS Cheerleaders also returned to work, painting signs and preparing for the 2017 season. BHS volleyball began its annual camp for young Blanco players. Football and volleyball Two-a-Days will begin August 7. Schedules for the upcoming season can be found on Blanco ISD’s website, blancoisd.com.
Joaquin Olmedo, Blanco Boy Scout Troop 497, has earned the highest Rank in Scouting, that of Eagle Scout. On May 7, 2017, an Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held at the Old Blanco Courthouse to present Joaquin as an Eagle Scout, an award only a few Scouts earn. Family, friends and Scouts attended to share in Joaquin’s joy and to wish him well. Offensively Andrew Shelton was the team leader in 5 categories; Games played, innings played, at bats, hits and walks while posting the 5th highest batting average on the team at .429. After this season, Andrew ranks 3rd all-time in the Panther JV Record books for innings played at 120 this season. Girls golf: Ashley Stuever had a great year posting scores in the 80’s and was the district champion for the junior varsity in the 25AAA golf tournament. Boys golf: Jake Mangold , Hayden Calzoncit, Cooper Riley, Ty Preiss, The season started off well and ended even better! The last five years we have made it to the final tournament of the season, UIL state golf!
Three Blanco County students have just returned from a once-in-a-lifetime leadership conferenace that has (him/her) well on the way to success. William Adams, Colby Turner,= and Amber Bray represented Blanco County Farm Bureau at Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) 54th annual Youth Leadership Conference (YLC). “YLC is more than a conference or camp,” Glenn Sultemeier, Director of Blanco County Farm Bureau, said.
LAGO VISTA—The Aaron Knuckles Era was unveiled, June 9, in this community well-known for the 30-mile scenic route from Marble Falls. Well, it’s a stretch—not quite 30 miles—to say “unveiled.” The new Llano High boys’ basketball head coach did see his guys play organized ball for the first time, but it was in the Vikings’ summer league. “I’m excited,” Nuckles said.
Several Blanco High School Band Students Competed at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Competition on Sunday May 29th in Pflugerville, Tx. Blanco students ended up being awarded 18 Gold Division 1 Medals and 3 Division 2 Silver Medals. Percussion, Saxophone, and Clarinet Ensembles all received a Division 1 Rating for their performances.
The Blanco High School UIL Academic Team brought home their fourth Region IV-AAA championship in a row, winning by 100 points and qualifying 11 students for the state meet in nine events. The team scored 233 total points with Industrial-Vanderbilt in second at 133. The Blanco Lady Panthers finished strong in district play with a 4-2 win over the Jarrell Lady Cougars on Friday, April 22 and a 12-1 victory against the Lago Vista Lady Vikings on Saturday, April 23. Blanco finished 2nd in District 25-3A with a 9-3 record. Florence won district with a 12-0 record, then Blanco, followed by Jarrell in 3rd with an 8-4 record, and Lago Vista in 4th place with a 7-5 district record.
