Varsity Girls Finish Fourth
The Blanco High School cross country team ran in the Harper Cross Country meet on Saturday, Sept. 9. The girl's varsity team finished in fourth place. Johanna Villarreal placed second, followed closely by teammate Steely Steiner in fourth place. Ashton Hunt crossed the finish line in 23rd place. Chloe Flores finished 40th, Jada Hector placed 43rd, and Carlie Waxler took 54th place. McKenna Clark, competing in junior varsity, placed 24th overall winning first place.
The Blanco High School junior varsity football team beat the Holy Cross Knights 14-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the BHS stadium. Holy Cross kicked off into the end zone to start the game. The Panthers went to work on offense on their own 25-yard line. Using four ball carriers, Blanco moved the ball down the field.

The Blanco High School varsity football team fell to the Holy Cross Knights 21-0 this past Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Wheatley Heights Sports Complex in San Antonio. The Knights wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with an 80-yard scoring drive capped by a pass for a touchdown. Holy Cross kicked the extra point and took a 7-0 lead, with 11:22 remaining in the first quarter. The Blanco Panthers lost their season opener to the Canyon Lake Hawks 38-0 on Friday, September 1. With home field advantage, the Hawks scored their first touchdown on a 28 yard pass play at the 6:56 mark in the first quarter. The extra point kick was good with the Hawks taking a 7-0 lead. Canyon Lake tacked on a field goal to lead 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Blanco Panther junior varsity football team lost a tough defensive battle 14-12 against the Canyon Lake Hawks on Thursday, August 31. The Panthers and Hawks held each other scoreless throughout the first half. Then in the third quarter Blanco scored a touchdown on a run by Christian Flores. The two point pass attempt after the touchdown failed.
With infrastructure and facilities pummeled by Harvey and rendered unsafe and inoperable, as well as facing displaced school personnel and students, many Texas community schools are closed and could remain so for weeks and even months. Harvey forced the closure of more than 200 school districts for at least a day, but dozens remain closed.
The Lady Panther volleyball team posted six wins this past week beginning on Tuesday, August 29 with a 3-0 victory over the Cole Lady Cougars at the Blanco High School gym. Set scores against the Cougars were 25-20, 25-23, 25-22. The junior varsity blue team won 25-14,25-10 and the junior varsity gold team won 25-3,25-14.
The Lady Panther volleyball team traveled to Boerne to tangle with the Boerne Lady Greyhounds this past Tuesday, August 15. The Greyhounds outscored the Panthers 25-17, 12-25, 25-22, 27-25. Hanna Srackangast smacked seven kills to lead the Panthers. Asher Haack and Kora Brock each hit six kills. Asher Haack set 21 assists.
The Lady Panther volleyball team started their season with a win in five sets over the San Antonio Christian School Lady Lions on Tuesday, August 8. In a match played in the SACS gym, set scores were 16-25, 25-19, 25-22, 14-25,15-9. Senior Kendall Brock fired in ten kills to lead the Panthers.
