The Lady Panthers put a bow on their week as they finished with a 39-28 win over the Geneva School of Boerne in the championship game of the Medina Athletic Booster Club Tournament Saturday, Dec. 14. Blanco defeated Brackettville, 67-17, and D’hanis, 61-22, Friday, Dec. 13, to go 4-0 on the week.
The championship game against Boerne Geneva was a rematch of Blanco’s season opener, but the result was much better than the 33-19 loss on Nov.
Presley Young, a BHS junior, received the statewide player of the week award for Nov.25-29 from the Roy Report Media, a website that covers Texas girl’s high school basketball.
Young and three other players from Texas high schools were nominated based on their outstanding play during that week. Young averaged 19 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3.5 steals in Blanco’s wins against Wimberley and Yoakum.
The varsity Panther basketball team won the Ingram tournament Saturday, Dec. 14, with a 65-55 win against the Comfort Bobcats in the championship game. Blanco played Comfort twice and won both times, in addition to wins over Our Lady of the Hills, Fredericksburg Heritage Christian, Ingram and Harper. The Panthers currently hold an 11-4 record.
In the tournament final, Tristan Schlinke was the high scorer for Blanco with 19 points.
The 2019 football all-district honors have been announced. Blanco players took four first team slots, four second team slots and seven honorable mention positions. Members of the Blanco FFA Chapter traveled to Huntsville, Friday, Dec.6, to compete in Texas FFA’s Leadership Career Development Events.
Blanco’s Senior FFA Creed Speaker Malinda Campbell qualified for the state competition by finishing first or second in one of the state’s 66 district competitions and first or second in one of twelve area competitions.
The University Interscholastic League announced the cutoff numbers for reclassification and realignment for all schools in Class 1A through 6A that participate in any UIL activity, and Blanco will remain a Class 3A school.
The numbers were released by the UIL on Dec. 3. These numbers will determine classifications and alignments for school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022.

The Panther basketball team beat the Navarro Panthers 67-51 Tuesday, Dec. 3, and posted a 2-2 record in the Marion tournament.
On Friday, Dec. 6, Blanco fell to the San Antonio Christian Lions, 59-47, in its opening game of tournament play. The Panthers lost to the Canyon Lake Hawks, 51-50, in their second game Friday.
The Lady Panther basketball team started the week strong with a 43-31 win against the San Marcos Home School Panthers Tuesday, Dec. 3. However, competition was tough in the Harper Tournament as they posted a 1-3 record there.
Beginning Thursday, Dec. 5, Blanco dropped 63-34 game to the host team, the Harper Lady Horns.
The 2019-20 Lady Panther basketball season is underway. The team played its first game Tuesday, Nov. 19, and with three games since, now holds a 2-2 record.
The 2018-19 team advanced to the Bi-District round of playoffs and finished the season with a 15-10 record.
When asked how he feels about the season after seeing the team play, Coach Matt Karnes responded, “I feel like we have a chance to be really good.

Since seeing the team play Coach Juston Weldon said, “I think we have a solid group of hard working kids that practice hard and want to win, and I feel good about the season moving forward.”
