The Blanco 7th grade football team finished the season strong with a 40-0 shut out over the Johnson City Eagles Thursday, Nov. 7. Wyatt Martinez got the scoring started with back-to-back touchdowns. Michael Serrano recovered an Eagle fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Colby Murphree scored the two-point conversion.
During a time of a nationwide shortage of farmers and other skilled agriculturalists, the FFA at Blanco High School is boosted by the community. “We have a lot of support for the ag program from within the community,” said high school ag teacher Tory Tierney. She said community members and parents support the Future Farmers of America program financially but they also give their time. “We’re hardly ever lacking for someone to come and help,” Tierney said. The weather was perfect for Friday night football as the Panthers hosted the Ingram Warriors Nov. 1 and rolled to a big 48-20 victory. It was the final home game for the seniors, who were Walton Daves, Marshal Symons, Brandt Wagner, Austin Van Pelt, Christian Flores, Josh Hogan, Jonathan Gonzalez, Seth Blakeslee, Luke Biggs, Ruben Gonzalez, Landon Burt, and the Cheer Beau Kody Kohnen. The Panthers won the coin toss and deferred possession to the second half.
The Lady Panther volleyball team suffered a loss in the Bi-District playoff game Monday, Nov. 4 against the Comfort Deer. Blanco won the first set decisively 25-12, and Comfort won the second set just as decisively 25-13. The third set turned into a true battle for control of the match and control of the momentum.
The Lady Panther volleyball team defeated Austin Achieve 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 22 and beat Florence 3-0 Friday, Oct. 25 to improve to 25-14 overall and 13-1 in District 25-3A. Sets scores against Austin Achieve were 25-6, 25-5, 25-3. Presley Young paced the team with seven kills. Kora Brock, Olivia Atchley and Emilee LaRue each hit four kills.
The Blanco girls cross country team competed at the Region IV Cross Country Meet at Texas A & M Corpus Christi Monday, Oct. 28. The team placed 22nd. With only one senior runner, the team is young with five sophomores and one freshman, so they could be back at the regional meet next year. Yoakum won the Conference 3A division, followed by Lago Vista in 2nd, San Antonio Cole in 3rd and San Diego in 4th.
The Blanco Panthers traveled north on a very chilly evening to face the Brady Bulldogs for another District 13-3A game Friday night, Oct. 25. The Panthers fell to the Bulldogs, 28-21. The Panthers kicked off to start the game as Baylor Smith and Kody Kohnen raced down the field for a quick stop preventing any possibly of a return. The Panther band advanced to the UIL Area E Marching Context at Beeville High School Saturday, Oct. 26. The band qualified for Area by receiving Division I ratings at the UIL Region 12 Marching Contest in San Antonio Saturday, Oct. 19. The band marched in the preliminary round at Area at 2:15 p.m., with the last band marching at 5 p.m.
