Students at Blanco Elementary School were served breakfast Friday morning by School Resource Office Steve Harris, left, and Blanco Police Chief Mike Ritchey. The law enforcement officers served breakfast to students as a way to wrap up National School Breakfast Week.
Three Lady Panther powerlifters competed at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Region 2 Division 3 Meet at Academy Saturday, March 7. Cirina Plaza received a medal for her fourth place finish in her class with a total lift of 860 pounds. Plaza lifted 330 pounds on squat, 205 pounds on bench press and 325 pounds on deadlift. Savannah Greene placed sixth in her class with a total lift of 790 pounds.
Four Panther powerlifters will make the trip to West High School in West Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14 for the Texas High School Powerlifting Meet for Region 2 Division 3. To qualify, the lifters had to finish in the top 12 of the region. Lifters may weigh in Friday evening, with the competition beginning Saturday morning at 8:30. Christian Flores finished first in the standings in his weight class with a total lift of 1290 pounds.

The Lady Panthers won the Blanco County Softball Classic this past weekend going 5-0 though out the three day tournament Thursday, March 5 through Saturday, March 7. The Lady Panthers co-host the tournament with the Johnson City Lady Eagles. During the three day tournament, fourteen teams played over 40 games of softball at the Blanco softball field and the Johnson City softball field.
The Panther basketball team fought hard against the state-ranked Cole Cougars in the Regional Quarter-final game Tuesday, March 3 at Canyon Lake High School, but fell 85-69. The Panthers led at the end of the first quarter, 23-20. However, the Cougars picked up the pace with three pointers, slam dunks and lay ups to take the lead 44-31 at the half.
The Panther baseball team played in the Llano Tournament Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6. Blanco defeated St. Andrews, Comfort and Texas Military Institute. Their loss was to Marble Falls. Blanco beat St. Andrews 8-0. Zack Wisdom picked up his first win on the year, going four innings of one- hit ball and striking out two.
The Panther band competed at the Region 12 University Interscholastic League Concert and Sight Reading Contest Thursday, Feb. 27 at Canyon Lake High School. In the concert contest, the band performed three selections, including Brave Spirit by Standridge, On the Kerry Shore by Wilds and Balalaika! by Meredith. Three Lady Panther powerlifters have qualified for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Region 2 Division 3 Powerlifting Meet at Academy High School at Little River Academy Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7. In order to qualify for the regional meet, a lifter must finish in the top 12 in Region 2 in their weight class. Cirina Plaza, a Blanco junior, finished third in the standings with a total lift of 840 pounds.
The Panther baseball team played their season-opener at home against the Comfort Bobcats Wednesday, Feb. 26. Blanco shutout the Bobcats 6-0. Lucas Villarreal got the win, going three innings and striking out three to pick up his first win. Griffin Johnson, Langston Hunter, Waylon Hall and Ty Adkinson all had hits.
