Like so many students, in Blanco and throughout the country, the Blanco High School softball team saw its 2020 season come to a sudden and unexpected end. As a result, a good team was denied the chance to see how far they could have gone in the playoffs. Many of the players will have an opportunity to try again next year, but not the team’s four seniors.

Blanco senior Ashtyn Hunt recently signed a commitment to compete in high jump for the track and field team at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Florida.
The Embry-Riddle Eagles participate in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports in the Peach Belt Conference. The 12-member conference is comprised of schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Hunt participated in the Blanco varsity track program all four years of high school.

The Blanco Panther basketball team completed their season in the third round of the playoffs with a loss to the state-ranked Cole Cougars Tuesday, March 3.
The Panthers completed the season with a 29-9 record, with a District 25-3A record of 14-2. Cole moved on through the playoffs, winning the Region IV Championship and their state semifinal game against Peaster.
The Lady Panther basketball team wrapped up their season with a 25-8 season record and a 10-2 District 25-3A record. Blanco lost in the Area round of playoffs to the state-ranked Schulenburg Lady Horns, 41-32, Feb. 21. Schulenburg lost in the state semi-finals to the eventual state champion, Shallowater.
“I thought we really came a long way this season,” said head coach Matt Karnes.
The Blanco High School One-Act Play performed at the District 25-3A One-Act Play Competition Thursday, March 12 at the Lago Vista High School Performing Arts Center. Blanco is one of three schools to advance to the Bi-District level.
Entries from Blanco, Florence, Georgetown Gateway, Jarrell, Johnson City, Lago Vista and Manor New Tech high schools competed for three spots to advance to Bi-District.

The Panthers squeezed in three games Friday, March 13 in the Blanco County Classic Baseball Tournament before play was suspended by a UIL decision to stop all high school sports and academic activities due to the need to reduce contact with teams and crowds and therefore reduce the spread of COVID-19.
In their first game Friday Blanco lost to state-ranked Malakoff 5-2.
The Blanco softball team began its District 25-3A schedule this past week with two wins. The Lady Panthers defeated Johnson City 18-2 on March 10 and beat Lago Vista 8-4 on March 13.
In the five-inning run-rule win at Johnson City, Kyla Davis pitched the distance for the Panthers. Davis faced 20 batters, giving up one walk and three hits.
