The Blanco Lady Panther varsity squad is playing a tough pre-district schedule this season against larger schools and some state-ranked teams. With COVID-19 lingering in Texas, the UIL eliminated tournament play this year in order to reduce crowd size in gyms. Normally, the Panthers attend three tournaments to gear up for district.
Blanco High School hosted volleyball scrimmages Friday, August 7. The Panthers, the Canyon Lake Hawks and the Boerne Greyhounds participated in the scrimmages. The junior varsity players on the team bench followed UIL requirements wearing masks before their rotation on the playing floor.
Coach Jane Karnes on the scrimmages: “I’m very pleased with the progress I’ve seen in the first week of volleyball. We have a lot of returning players from last year which has given us some good stability early. Our passing will play a major role in our success this season.
There were 62 Panthers out for the first day of football practice Monday, Aug. 3. Also that day, a total of 35 Blanco volleyball players out who ran a mile at the track and continued with drills in the gym on the first day of athletic training allowed by the UIL since March 13, when the COVID-19 outbreak shut down all school-related activities.
Blanco High football and volleyball practice got underway Monday, while cheerleaders gathered to paint signs in anticipation of the upcoming fall sports seasons.

Kinder Morgan presented a donation of $50,000 last Wednesday to the Blanco Education Foundation. The Blanco Education Foundation partners with the community to provide funds “beyond those available through state and federal revenues” for a variety or projects at Blanco ISD, focusing on those that are “innovative education proposals that will impact significant numbers of students and improve student achievements.” One way they do this is by allowing teachers to apply to BEF for grants ...
The University Interscholastic League on Tuesday morning issued a revised calendar and guidelines for dealing with COVID-19.
The revised calendar allows schools in classes 1A-4A to begin football and volleyball practices on Aug. 3. Competitions for volleyball may begin Aug. 10, with team tennis and cross country competitions allowed starting Aug.
The Blanco High School varsity and junior varsity cheer squads attended camp at the BHS gym Monday, June 29 through Wednesday, July 1.
Universal Cheer Association instructors for the camp were Jessica Campbell, Joshua Perez, Lexi Esparza and Guillermo Garza. The instructors taught stunts, sideline cheers and chants.
The squad received a 2020 Superior Trophy for their showcase performance.
Seven senior baseball players at Blanco High School who were members of the 2019 state finalist team graduated May 29 with the other members of the class of 2020 who also lost sports seasons, prom, award ceremonies and time with classmates.
These seven seniors had their sights set on another deep run in the baseball playoffs, with the state tournament as the ultimate goal.
