The Panther basketball team made historic strides this past week defeating the Marion Bulldogs 83-71 in their Bi-district playoff at Wimberley Tuesday, Feb. 25 and outlasting the Industrial Cobras 56-47 Friday, Feb. 28 in the Area playoff at Floresville.
It has been many years since the BHS basketball team has advanced to the third round in the playoffs.
Against the Cobras the Panthers took a commanding 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the past week, the Lady Panther softball team posted a 3-3 record including a 4-3 win against Harper, Monday, Feb. 24 and two wins and three losses in the Wimberley Lady Texans Tournament played Feb. 27-29.
Against Harper, Kyla Davis pitched for the win, tossing three strikeouts. Addy Seymour led the team at the plate going three-for-four with two singles and a double.
The Panther basketball team won the District 25-3A championship title this past week. The team was locked-in as co-champions, but with a loss by Jarrell to Austin Achieve, the Panthers no longer shared the district title and won it outright. The top four teams moving on to the playoffs are Blanco, Lago Vista, Jarrell and Georgetown Gateway.
The Lady Panthers took on the state-ranked Schulenburg Lady Horns Friday, Feb. 21 at Seguin High School and fell 41-32.
Previously ranked fifth on the Texas Girls High School Coaches Association poll, Schulenburg moves to third in the state in Class 3A on the Feb. 24 poll.
The Panthers kept the game close with the first quarter ending in a 9-9 tie.
The girls powerlifting team lifted their way to some hardware at a meet at Texas Strength Systems in San Antonio Thursday, Feb. 20.
Cirina Plaza placed first in her class with a total lift of 820 pounds, a 55 pound increase from her previous meet. Plaza squatted 330 pounds, benched 195 and deadlifted 315.
The Panther boys golf team finished in second place Tuesday, Feb. 18 at the Bandera Golf Invitational Tournament. Jacob Gallas shot an 81 and Stone Slaughter scored an 85. Spirits were high after 23 young musicians in the Blanco Middle School Band earned spots in the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) All-Region Bands this year, more students than in any past years.
“Making the All-Region Band is the highest honor a middle school band student can achieve,” said Danette Conard, Blanco Middle School band director.
The Panther powerlifting team finished third at the Texas Strength Systems meet in San Antonio Thursday, Feb. 13.
Some of the other schools participating at the meet were Seguin, Natalia, Devine, Pleasanton, Canyon Lake, Southwest Legacy, Jourdanton, Holy Cross, Marion, San Antonio Memorial and Yoakum.
Jackson Cress won first place in his weight class with a total lift of 1105 pounds.
The Panther basketball team defeated the Manor New Tech Titans 82-58 Friday, Feb. 14, but lost to the Jarrell Cougars, 53-39, on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The Panthers sit at the top of the District 25-3A standings currently, with a 13-2 district record. Jarrell is second with a 10-3 record, followed by Georgetown Gateway at 10-4.
