Kiley Elrod and Emily Windham competed last Saturday at the Texas Women’s Powerlifting Region 2 Meet at Dublin. Windham posted a total of 665 pounds, placing 8th in the region. Elrod placed first in her weight class with a total lift of 915 pounds. Elrod posted a squat of 400 pounds, a bench press of 215 pounds and a dead lift of 300 pounds.
The Blanco junior varsity baseball team won the Wimberley JV Tournament Saturday, March 6. The team defeated Canyon Lake 2-0. The winning pitcher was Cooper Chase with seven innings pitched and 13 strikeouts. The Panthers beat Thorndale 8-7. Mitchell Dalland was the winning pitcher. In the final game, Blanco outscored Wimberley 4-3.
The Blanco baseball team posted a 4-1 record this past week to improve to 8-2 early in the season. Three of the wins came in the Llano tournament. Blanco defeated the San Antonio FEAST Patriots 5-4 Tuesday, March 2 at the Panther baseball field. Ryne Kaiser got the win in relief.
Jackson Cress and Marc Flores have qualified for the Texas High School Powerlifting Region 2 Meet Saturday, March 13 at Smithville High School. Cress qualified in his weight class with a total lift of 1130 pounds. Flores qualified with a total lift of 1070 pounds.
The Blanco boys basketball team made a deep run in the playoffs before falling in the regional quarterfinals. The Panthers beat the Hallettsville Brahma in the area playoff, 54-45, Wednesday, Feb. 24. Their season ended with a 79-61 loss to San Antonio Cole on Saturday, Feb. 27. The Panthers were striving to avenge their loss to Cole in the third round of the playoffs last year.
The Blanco girls basketball team made history, going deeper in the playoffs than any previous girls basketball team in school history. The Lady Panthers’ historic run ended in the regional semifinals as they fall 50-27 to Bishop, Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Cuero High School gym. Prior to the game, Blanco defeated Palacios, 62-55, in Goliad in the regional quarterfinals on Feb.
Two Lady Panther powerlifters have qualified for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association regional meet this weekend, March 6 at Dublin High School. The top 10 lifters in each division qualify for regional. Kiley Elrod, left, has qualified and is in first place in her division with a lift total of 935 pounds.
Blanco baseball posted a 4-1 record to open the 2021 season. The Panthers routed Johnson City and went 3-1 in the Marion tournament, losing to the host team by a run in the championship game. Blanco 10, JC 1 Ryne Kaiser picked up the win against Johnson City in a 10-1 Blanco victory.
After waiting out the ice, snow and sub-freezing temperatures, the Blanco boys basketball team opened with a win in the bi-district round over Stockdale, 71-55. The Panthers found a location for their opening round playoff game at the Hays ISD Johnson High School gym Saturday, Feb. 20. The game was fast-paced and rough, but the Panthers persevered for win. Stockdale scored first, but the Panthers answered with eight points, including three-pointers by Tristan Schlinke and Baylor Smith.
The Blanco girls basketball team defeated ninth-ranked Columbus 55-46 in the area playoff game Monday, Feb. 22 at the Nixon-Smiley High School gym. Blanco improves to 18-6 on the season. Columbus took an early 8-0 lead. Blanco pulled within three at the end of the first quarter, trailing 16-13. Presley Young was on fire, scoring 11 points on jumpers and a free throw.
