The Blanco boys basketball team took two more wins last week to improve to 11-1 on the season. The Panthers defeated the Holy Cross Knights, 63-39, on Jan. 5 and beat the Canyon Lake Hawks 75-39 on Jan. 8. On the road in San Antonio against the Knights, Blanco held a slight lead, 12-10, at the end of the first quarter.
The Blanco girls basketball team struggled with two losses last week. The Lady Panthers dropped a 42-38 district game at Comfort Jan. 5 and then fell in double overtime Jan. 8 at Giddings, 58-53. In the District 25-3A opener, the Deer jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter.
The Blanco varsity girls basketball team posted a 2-1 record last week. The Lady Panthers defeated Gonzales by a 56-41 score on Dec. 28, dropped a 53-37 contest to Burnet Dec. 28 and rebounded with a 38-12 win Dec. 31 against Davenport. Blanco holds a 10-3 season record. Against the Gonzales Apaches, the Lady Panthers led 26-18 at the half.
The Panther basketball team added three to the win column over the holiday break, and suffered their first loss of the season to hold a 9-1 season record. The Panthers defeated the San Marcos Home School Panthers 80-77 Monday, Dec. 21. The SMHS Panthers led 19-17 at the end of the first quarter and outscored Blanco 24 to 19 to lead at the half 43-36.
The Blanco Panthers and Lady Panthers made awesome memories and highlights in 2020, in spite of the challenge of living through a pandemic. Good bye 2020, good riddance, and take COVID-19 with you. It is amazing that many of the Blanco High School sports were able to complete a season this year.

The Blanco basketball team added two more wins to its season total over the past week to improve to 6-0. The Panthers scorched the Canyon Lake Hawks 97-55, last Friday, and beat the Kipp Austin Collegiate Cardinals, 126-53, on Saturday. Against the Hawks, Blanco jumped out to a 26-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 48-27 advantage at halftime.
The Blanco varsity girls basketball team went unbeaten last week to improve to 8-2 on the season. The Lady Panthers defeated the Pleasanton Eagles, 49-24, last Tuesday, and beat the San Marcos Home School Panthers, 55-33, on Friday. Blanco has won four consecutive games. Against the Eagles Blanco scoring was delayed, but when Meadow Schlinke hit a three-pointer at the 5:50 mark of the first quarter, the Lady Panthers caught fire and ended the quarter with a 13-4 lead.
The Blanco Lady Panthers picked up a pair of wins last week to improve to 6-2 on the season. Blanco outscored the Canyon Lake Hawks by 39 points Tuesday, Dec. 8, for a 56-17 win. On Friday, Dec. 11, the Lady Panthers took the bite out of the Brady Lady Bulldogs in a 66-45 victory. In the Canyon Lake game Blanco led 13- 0 at the end of the first quarter and led 23-4 at halftime.
The Blanco Panther basketball team beat the Navarro Panthers 73-51 Tuesday, Dec. 8. Blanco led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams poured in the points in the second quarter, with Blanco scoring 24 and Navarro sinking 18 points. Blanco led 37-25 at the half. Blanco scored another 36 points in the second half, and held Navarro to 26 second half points.
