Three students from LBJ Middle School have qualified for participation in this year’s Talent Search for mathematically and verbally advanced students sponsored by Duke University’s Talent Identification Program (TIP). The program identifies highly able seventh-graders from a 16-state region in the south, southwest and midwest.
To be eligible, students must have a score of 95% or higher on the 2017 STAAR Math and/or STAAR Reading Test.
Enrollment remains a top concern for Johnson City ISD as the number of total students dropped from last year. At Monday’s school board meeting the campus principals also presented their improvement plans and addressed potential new discipline policies.

Current enrollment is 656 students. The district is down by 29 students from last year.
The Johnson City Eagles hosted the Mason Punchers at Eagle Field Friday, Sept. 8. The Punchers wasted no time before displaying why they are one of the top ten small school football teams in the state of Texas, beating Johnson City with a final score of Johnson City 0, Mason 35.
Asked after the game, coach Cloninger stated, “Mason was a very good football team.
This week the Lady Eagles defended their home gym, gaining two wins from the Harper High School Longhorns and the Comfort High School Deer in their first district match.
Johnson City took the match against Harper in three games 25-23, 27-25 and 25-16.
Setter Hailey Fox had 41 assists in the match.
The Johnson City Eagles opened the 2017 football season with a defensive clean sheet and a very strong offensive showing on the road against the Jarrell Cougars Friday night, with a final score of Johnson City 37, Jarrell 0.
Linebacker Tony Medrano led a stout defense with 10 tackles, followed by linebackers Luke Rassett with 5 tackles, and Ethan Heinen with 4.
The Lady Eagles added two more matches to the win column this week when they faced Llano last Friday and Canyon Lake on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles beat the Yellow Jackets in three games of 25 on Friday Sep. 1. They only allowed 17 points to be scored on them in the first game, ten in the second and 15 in the third.

Eagle Volleyball is off to strong start for the 2017 season. They put two wins on the record for beating Burnet High School last Friday and Boerne Geneva High School on Tuesday. This year the lady Eagles defend at Area Championship title from their playoff run last season.
The lady Eagles beat the Bulldogs in Burnet last Friday; the match lasted five games.
Bella Mae Swafford led the team on offense with 21 kills.
Homecoming 2017 for Johnson City Schools is just around the corner.
LBJ High School and the Administration of Johnson City ISD are excitedly preparing for Homecoming 2017. Plans are in the works for this year’s celebration which is set for the week of September 11th-15th. Highlights of the week include the Community Pep Rally and BBQ on Wednesday, September 13th and Volleyball on Friday vs District 25AAA opponent Lago Vista followed by Football against non-district opponent San Saba.
Shop Smart on Tax-Free Weekend
This weekend (August 11-13) is the Texas Tax-Free Weekend and JCISD has posted the 2017-2018 Dress and Grooming Guidelines, as well as school supply lists for all campuses, so shoppers will be able to save money on supplies and buy clothes that comply with the dress code.
Both students and parents are encouraged to take the time to review the guidelines and supply lists before shopping and before the start of school.
New Superintendent, Richard Kolek hopes to make Johnson City ISD a District of Innovation, a title which would allow the district to be exempt from certain restrictions and open Johnson City Schools up to different opportunities. Kolek presented the proposal to the school board and community members on Monday, July 17.
At Monday’s meeting, the school board also discussed the district’s financial status and upcoming business.
