Johnson City hosted Rogers Friday night in a duel of the Eagles. After four quarters of high flying action, your Johnson City Eagles would be victorious with a final score of 28-20, JC. JC would struggle to gather momentum in the first quarter, giving up two touchdowns for 13 points. The spark would come early in the second quarter as Quarter Back Harris completed his first pass for a touchdown to Running Back Heinen.
On Monday, Oct. 9 the Johnson City School Board met for their monthly meeting. Superintendent Richard Kolek presented the District of Innovation plan. The board later approved the plan. Earlier this year, the School Board approved the proposal for Johnson City to become a district of innovation which went into effect in September.
After an upset in the first round of district, the Lady Eagles beat the Lady Panthers Tuesday for round two. The five set match was a high action win for the lady Eagles brought their district record to eight wins to two losses as they hold a ranking in the top 25. The match was an exciting back and forth.
The Johnson City Eagles traveled to Florence to open district gameplay. Even though it was Friday the 13th, the Eagles did not let superstition take over. Instead, they gave the Buffalos bad luck, with a final score of Johnson City 48, Florence 24. The Eagles brought a well-balanced attack, racking up 299 total yards rushing and 177 yards passing, to score a total of seven touchdowns.
The Johnson City Eagles concluded non-district play with a shutout of the Ingram Tom Moore Warriors, final score Johnson City 51, Ingram Tom Moore 0. The powerful Eagle defense was led by Linebackers Tony Medrano with 6 tackles, Garrison Wood with 5 tackles, Ethan Heinen with 4 tackles, and Defensive End Jaron Pearce with 7 tackles.
The lady Eagles had Tuesday night off after defeating the Lady Warriors from Ingram High School last Friday. The match was decided in three games, Johnson City reaching 25 points before Ingram could break 20. Scores were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12. Aleigh Wessels hit ten kills for the night. Also leading on offense was Paige Dalland with nine kills and Bella Mae Swafford with seven kills.
The Lady Eagles fell to a rival last Friday in Blanco but came back to beat Gateway Prep school in five games on Tuesday Sept. 27. Eagles vs. Panthers Johnson City volleyball traveled south to Blanco last Friday to take on the lady Panthers. The match was decided in four sets with Blanco coming out ahead. On Friday, October 6th, 2017 the LBJ High School Student Council will be sponsoring a Blood Drive in the High School Gym. Technicians from the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be available from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Lady Eagle 8th grade A-team participated in the Burnet Volleyball Tournament this past Saturday. Both eighth grade teams collected wins against Florence this past week. Tournament Being the only 3A school competing against larger schools might have intimidated other teams. But not our Lady Eagles. The team let their talents do the talking. The Lady Eagles faced Burnet first.
The Johnson City Eagles capped off a week full of homecoming festivities with a win against the San Saba Armadillos, final score 27-6, Eagles. Asked after the game, coach Chris Cloninger said “This was a good game. We started out kinda slow, but found our groove late in the second quarter.
