LBJHS and LBJMS Cross Country teams were on the road early Saturday morning for the short trip to Llano to take on area teams on the 2- and 3-mile courses. Freshman Lydia White had her second Varsity Girls top ten finish with a 12:59 on the 2-mile course to place 7th.
Both 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball teams kept their records perfect after sweeping Florence Thursday evening in the LBJHS Gym. The 7th Grade C team got their season off to a great start as they won two nail-biting sets (29-27, 27-25) against the Florence B team. Hanah Roy, Laurel Gatlin, Meagan Smith, and Rebecca Shugart had strong service games; Audrey Baker, Clara Baker, Destenee Huertez, Jelessa Regino, and Katie Hacker contributed points off of serves and kills in the win. For the second week in a row the Eagles faced the challenge of a state-ranked opponent, this time hosting 2018 2A-D1 State Champion Mason. The Punchers came to town intent on rebounding from a season-opening home loss in the much-touted match-up with 3A-D1 Wall. The rare home loss (7-47) had the Punchers hungry to get back on track which they did with a resounding 43-0 victory over the Eagles.
With Homecoming 2019 just around the corner on September 27th, the Johnson City Community Education Foundation (JCCEF) has announced two events to give Eagle fans a chance to celebrate with the community, gather with classmates, and support the nonprofit which provides scholarships to graduating LBJHS Seniors. The Community Pep Rally will take place on Wednesday, September 26th at Eagle Field at 6pm and the JCCEF will be serving up BBQ plates starting at 5pm.
The LBJMS Lady Eagles spoiled the Volleyball season opener for the Blanco Lady Panthers winning four matches Thursday night on the Panthers home court. The 7th Grade B team opened up with a two-set win (25-8, 25-17). They looked strong for the early season with excellent serving led by Aleah Malone.
Freshman Lydia White opened her high school Cross Country career in high style, placing third in the 4A-and-below Varsity Girls Division at Lockhart on Saturday. White finished the 1.89 mile course in 12:22. Claire White finished second in the 8th Grade Girls Division with a 8:42 time in the 1.25 mile course.
A season-opening road trip to The Graveyard in San Saba proved to be a nightmare for the Eagles on Friday night as the Armadillos - ranked fourth in the State in Class 2A - outscored JC 55-3. Tulsa commit Sean O'Keefe and Running Back Eli Salinas combined to score forty-one points in the first half and the San Saba defense forced four Eagle turnovers to put the game away early.
The Varsity Lady Eagles closed out the 2019 tournament season with three wins on Saturday at the Cornerstone Christian Warrior Classic in San Antonio to bring home the Consolation Championship from the tournament. JC struggled early in pool play Friday with a loss to a talented 6A New Braunfels team, but bounced back to beat 5A Uvalde 25-17, 25-15.
By Julie Storer The Johnson City Eagle Varsity and JV Football teams traveled to Marion on Thursday to take on the Class 3A-Division 1 Bulldogs in the final tune-up before kicking off the 2019 season.  The Varsity squad scored first on an option keep when Wyatt Tumlinson found the end zone from five yards out. The second JC score came on a Logan Ledger pass to Jakub Emerson for a 42-yard touchdown.
With the 89th Blanco County Fair & Rodeo drawing crowds this weekend the JC Eagles hope to draw a crowd of their own Thursday morning as they take the field against Geneva School of Boerne in a season-opening scrimmage for Varsity and JV at Eagle Field. Geneva - picked by Dave Campbell as the top team in TAPPS (Texas Association of Private Parochial Schools) Division III, District 3 - returns seven offensive and 5 defensive starters from a team that went 5-0 in district and lost to Houston - ...
