The start of the school year is time for blessing students' backpacks in many churches, asking God’s protection for the packs and the children who wear them. Thursday, August 15th, 2019 LBJ Elementary - Pre-K through 6th Grade: 5 to 6pm LBJ Middle School - 6th through 8th Grade: 5:30 to 7pm Meet your child’s teachers, visit classrooms, drop-off school supplies and pre-pay on cafeteria accounts. All families are requested to complete a District Free- and Reduced-Price Lunch Program application to ensure that eligible families receive the appropriate assistance.
With three days of practice and a one-set Alumni scrimmage under their belts the Varsity Lady Eagles rattled off five wins before falling to two 5A opponents on Saturday. JC opened the week at Harper and swept the host Lady Longhorns with wins at the Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity (25-11, 25-11, 25-23) levels.
August is here and brings with it familiar rites of passage for families with school-aged children - school shopping, a final trip to the beach, two-a-days, and Band Camp to name a few. For fans of Texas High School Football, it’s also time to check the newsstand for the inch-thick, glossy almanac of all things Football at the high school and collegiate level - Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine.
By Julie Storer Helping to kick off the new school year and fall sports seasons are three upcoming events to get Eagle fans cheering. Two-a-day practice for High School Volleyball begins Thursday, August 1st and all former Lady Eagle players are invited to test their game against this year’s team in the annual Alumni Game on Friday, August 2nd at 6pm in the LBJHS Gym.
Fort Worth, Texas – Members from the Johnson City FFA chapter attended the 91st annual Texas FFA State Convention held July 15-19 in Fort Worth. Johnson City FFA members who attended the convention were: David Gravell, Willow Grote, Ethan Jones, Westin Perrenoud, Shelby Perrenoud, Logan Sadler, Brett Sultemeier, and Rylee Welch.
JCISD Trustees held a Regular Meeting on July 15, 2019. Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the meeting to order at 6:01 pm. JCISD high school student Brinley Portie addressed the Board in Public Forum regarding the dress code with particular attention to hair length and facial hair. Portie asked the Board to consider providing overall fairness to JCISD students.
Directors Bryan Anders and Chelsea Hoffman will welcome new and returning band members over the course of the first two weeks in August as the annual Band Camp commences at LBJ High School. Eighth grade band members, drumline and color guard will report August 5th-9th from 10 to 2pm in the HS Band Hall.
The 2019 Lady Eagle Volleyball team will face one of their toughest opponents in the new season with just a day-and-a-half of practice under their belts when they face their own Alumni at 6pm on Friday, August 2nd. The event will help to raise money for the Volleyball program with a $3 admission charged.
Rusty Weirich, along with his mother, Shirley Weirich, and his son, Reid Weirich from Johnson City traveled to All Star Village in Oneonta, New York to watch Reid play in a baseball tournament with Lonestar Baseball Club. Fifty teams from around the country played in the tournament the week of June first through the seventh. Reid had a great performance at the plate during the tournament.
