School officials have released athletic schedules for the fall sports seasons which indicate that Homecoming 2019 is set for Friday, September 27th. The Lady Eagles will face Florence in District 25-3A Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball at 4, 5 and 6pm. The Varsity Eagles will host Florence in a non-District Football match-up at 7:30pm; Johnson City competes in District 13-3A Division II in Football.
Kenzie Adrian placed 1st in javelin (109’) and 3rd in long jump (15’8.5”) in the American Freedom Games last weekend at Rice University. The Games are a collection of youth sporting events that incorporate and celebrate patriotism and pride of country - bringing together some of the top youth athletes in the nation to compete.
Two of the top athletes in the LBJ High School Class of 2019 were recently selected to compete in All-Star contests in their respective sports. Standouts Rylee Weirich (Softball) and Lance Hobbs (Basketball) were nominated by Eagle coaches and selected by committee to represent Johnson City in the showcase events that featured the best in local talent from their graduating class. The Administrative Staff at JCISD presented Service Pins at their Annual End-of-Year Appreciation Breakfast to staff who reached benchmark years of service in 2018-2019. The breakfast – prepared by the District Child Nutrition Department and served by members of the Board of Trustees – is an annual tradition to close out the school year.
Recent Lyndon B. Johnson High School (LBJHS) graduate Aubrie Scott will be taking her ability and interest in the performing arts with her this fall as she joins the Goin’ Band from Raiderland at Texas Tech University. The band marches 450 members, performs at all Red Raider home football games and this fall will travel to Norman for Tech vs.
Members of the family of James Ross Leonard (Class of 1998) were on hand as coaches and students from JCISD dedicated a plaque in his honor in the LBJ High School gym where he spent countless Tuesday and Friday nights watching his beloved Lady Eagles. Leonard, who passed away April 9th, scored the go-ahead basket for the 1947 Johnson City Eagles in the Class B State Basketball Championship Game and went on to a successful coaching career in girls’ basketball and track.

Coaches, athletes, family and friends gathered Monday evening at LBJ High School to honor the achievements of the Eagle and Lady Eagle athletic programs during the 2018-2019 school year. The annual ceremony – hosted by the Eagle Athletic Boosters – featured a hamburger dinner and a recap from coaches on each sports season.
The Lady Eagles 8th Grade girls finished runner-up in team scoring in the District 25-3A Tennis Meet on Saturday at Leander High School and there were other highlights for both the boys and girls. Avery Tumlinson and Hannah Snodgrass won the 8th Girls Doubles Championship. Blaze and Dusti Welch placed 3rd in 8th Mixed Doubles.
By Julie Storer The Marion Bulldogs edged the Johnson City Eagles 3-1, 6-5 in the best-of-three Bi-District playoff last weekend to advance to the Area Round of the UIL State Baseball Playoffs. On Thursday night Marion drew first blood in the bottom of the first when Tayler Mills drew a walk then scored on the stand-up double to centerfield by Walker Rudisaile.
