In a nail-biting, down-to-the-wire, four-set match the Lady Eagles season ended Thursday night in the Area round of the UIL State Volleyball Playoffs. The loss to Schulenburg (20-25, 25-22, 18-25, 30-32) cut short a season highlighted by an undefeated District 25-3A Championship, fourth consecutive Bi-District Championship and a 31-11 overall record.
Hye native Porter Watson was honored by the Blanco County Commissioners Court Tuesday for his dedication and service to his country, his family, and his community.
95-year-old Watson served in the U.S. Army Infantry June 27, 1944 through April 19, 1946, mainly in the Pacific theater on the Philippine islands of Leyte, Panay, and Mindanao, plus a few months after wartime in Korea.

Any time there is more than one high school in a county the ensuing rivalry between the two raises the stakes of any game. This will prove true this Friday night as the Blanco Panthers come to Johnson City to take on the Eagles. Beyond bragging rights the outcome of the game could result in the end of the 2019 season for one team or the other.
The LBJMS Eagles made the trip to Sonora Thursday night to meet the Broncos and their hosts defended the home turf exceptionally well handing the Eagles two shut-out losses. The 7th Grade Eagles had a rough outing losing 56-0 on the road. The Eagles worked hard as a team on both offense and defense, but were unable to contain the Broncos.
LBJ Middle School administration and staff honored six students recently with the Soaring Eagle Award. One girl and one boy from each grade were nominated and voted on by the staff and received a personalized Rambler for their achievement. Ninety-one students with perfect attendance were presented a certificate and ice cream at lunch.

The Lady Eagles cruised to two more victories and kept their District 25-3A record spotless as they defeated Manor New Tech and IDEA Montopolis last week in straight sets. The long drive to Manor resulted in a short night on the court as the Lady Eagles swept the Lady Titans with the Freshmen taking at 25-18, 25-16 victory and the JV handling their counterparts 25-5, 25-20.
Seniors Wyatt Tumlinson and Logan Ledger combined for 469 yards of offense and the Eagle defense put up a balanced front to keep themselves in the hunt for the 2019 playoffs with a victory at Ingram on Friday night. Tumlinson threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 41 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Freshman Lydia White closed out a stellar rookie season with a 13:12.59 in the 2-Mile course to finish 21st of 180 runners at the UIL 3A Region 4 Cross Country Championships in Corpus Christi on Monday. White – the 2019 District 25-3A Champion – led the Lady Eagles to an 8th place team finish out of the twenty-four teams competing.
