In a normal year, youth from three churches in Johnson City would spend the week somewhere else, sleeping on church floors and spending their days repairing low-income homes and improving public facilities.  But this, of course, is no normal summer, so the church youth leaders modified the plan and the youth stayed in Johnson City this week to work on projects here in a “day camp” structure, sleeping at home each night. First Day Back to School is August 17
By Tricia Hartmann JCISD Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on June 8, 2020 in the LBJ High School Commons Area. Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. and a quorum was established with all Board members present. There were no public comments. Bond Project Updates Jennifer Black of Sledge Engineering presented the Bond Project Updates, including some required changes and some unexpected developments.
The Johnson City Library is kicking off their Summer Reading program with a Parade on Saturday June 20 starting at 9 a.m. The parade will wind through the neighborhoods, and children and adults are encouraged to dress as their favorite character from a book, including comic books, fairy tales or fantasy characters.
The JCISD campuses closed for Spring Break on March 13 and only re-opened for students to collect personal belongings and return school-owned items in late May due to concerns over COVID-19. JCISD Athletic Director David T. Sine has released information for all Eagle and Lady Eagle athletes outlining opportunities and expectations for the 2020 Summer Strength and Conditioning Program at LBJ High School. The program - the first opportunity for athletes to return to campus for workouts since March 12th - is scheduled to start June 8th and will end on July 30th.  The program will be a total of six weeks with twenty-four workouts for every Middle School and High School athlete that ...
Our final Spring Senior Spotlight includes members of the LBJHS Fighting Eagle Band, Boys’ Track and the award-winning UIL One Act Play cast and crew. With the abrupt cancellation  of spring activities the Senior Band members missed out on earning their fifth consecutive Sweepstakes Trophy which is awarded to bands who earn Division 1 ratings on the stage in their Concert performance and in Sight Reading during the spring UIL contest.
Nowhere in Johnson City was the spotlight shining more brightly before the pandemic was declared this spring than at McKinney Field – on the Eagle Varsity Baseball team. After a 2-2 stalemate in Game 2 of the season the Eagles rattled off eight straight wins before their lone loss of the season to FEAST Academy in the Blanco County Invitational on March 12th.
The Texas High School Baseball Association released their annual end-of-season top 100 statistical leaders last week recognizing performances through March 15th when the UIL suspended contests due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The 2020 Eagles from Johnson City (11-1-1) were well represented in the Class 3A stats comprised of eighty-seven teams and 1316 players. The Johnson City FFA “Keep Your Distance” Online Wildlife Contest is in the books and the results are as follows: Sixteen teams and 60 individuals from across the State of Texas competed in this event with Ingram finishing as the High Scoring team.  Taylor Bossley from Pearland was the High Individual.  From the LBJ High School Student Division, Brett Sultemeier scored the highest.
