COVID-19 Changes Pace of Life in Blanco County
JCISD Trustees held a Special Meeting at 12:30 p.m. on March 23. Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the meeting to order and a quorum was established. Superintendent Richard Kolek gave the Superintendent’s Report with updates on School Closure: Coronavirus (COVID-19). Completion of all activities – with modifications - still the focus
The dream of raising district, playoff and State Championship trophies is still alive amid the constantly shifting landscape of school closings and social distancing recommendations in response to the COVID-19 virus. The University Interscholastic League extended the suspension of activity indefinitely with May 4 as the earliest date, according to UIL Executive Director Charles Breithaupt, who released the information on Thursday, March 20.
Johnson City was a huge presence at the Ingram Invitational Track Meet last Thursday with the Varsity Girls, JV Girls and JV Boys each winning their respective divisions. The Varsity Lady Eagles outscored runner-up Nueces Canyon 172 to 97 and the JV Girls edged Our Lady of the Hills 66 to 63.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) released the first wave of changes to the Spring Meet calendar in response to concern over participant and spectator safety. Lady Eagles come up short against Blanco, Gateway
The Varsity Eagle Baseball team picked up two more wins against their first loss of the season before the three-day Blanco County Invitational Baseball Tournament was called after Day 2 amid growing concerns about the coronavirus. The Eagles opened the tournament on Thursday with a lukewarm performance against the Austin Johnston Junior Varsity who bounced back from a 1-0 deficit in the 1st inning to take the 10-4 win.
Four women will be vying for two seats up for re-election on the Johnson City Independent School District Board of Trustees. Two places, six and seven, are the trustee positions up for election on May 2. Cristol Carbary Corpus, the incumbent at Place 7, Sarah Allen, Carlette R. Lewis and Amy Spellmann are the candidates running during the at-large election. The school board consists of seven members who serve staggered three-year terms, according to the JCISD website.
By Julie Storer For the second week in a row the Lady Eagles 7th Grade Track Team finished at the top of the standings, this time winning the title in the Comfort Invitational. The Lady Eagles placed in ten of the seventeen events and won at the wire winning the 4x400 M Relay - the final event - to edge 2nd Place Bandera 111.25 to 109.5.
