The Varsity and Junior Varsity Lady Eagles earned a pair of wins toppling Canyon Lake on the 4A Eagles home court and defending their own court against the visiting 3A Comfort Deer. On Tuesday at Canyon Lake JC White notched their first win, taking down Canyon Lake in two sets.
From the first play of the game - an onside kick that bounced off the hands of a Florence player and was covered by Eagles Mason Roberts and Angel Ramirez - the Johnson City Varsity Eagle Football team controlled Friday night’s 2020 opener over the Florence Buffalos. The Eagles opening drive ended with a 5-yard run by Cody Sprouse for the first score of the 2020 season.
The LBJHS Cross Country team opened the 2020 season last Tuesday with a race through the pecan groves of San Saba bringing home hardware in both the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys divisions. Sophomore Captain Lydia White raced through the 2-mile course in 13:39.20 for 2nd place with her sister - Freshman Clare White - hot on her heels finishing 3rd with a time of 13:44.2.
JCISD held a Public Hearing and Special Meeting in the LBJ High School Commons on August 24, 2020. Eagle Head Coach David T Sine was likely more excited about the 0-0 stalemate in the Eagles first scrimmage than he would have been in past seasons. Besides the fact that the Eagle defense effectively clamped down on the visiting 3A Stockdale Brahmas on Saturday, Sine was just glad to finally see players on the field and fans in the stands.

Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the JCISD regular meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. on August 10, and a quorum was established with all trustees present. There were no public comments. Superintendent’s Report Jennifer Black of Sledge Engineering updated the board on the latest bond project updates, as well as the latest bond financial updates. JCISD Superintendent Richard Kolek highlighted the new Roadmap to Reopening School webpage on the District’s website.
Head Coach David T Sine and his staff get their one and only chance to put the 2020 Eagles through their paces in a controlled scrimmage when the Stockdale Brahmas come to Eagle Field Thursday. The Brahmas (3-2 in District 15-3A; 5-7 overall in 2019) were Bi-District Champions with a victory against Odem before a loss to Comfort ended their season.
Topple state-ranked Poth on the Pirettes home court
The Johnson City Lady Eagles Varsity opened the 2020 Volleyball season in a big way with a road victory against the ninth-ranked 3A Poth Pirettes last Tuesday. The visiting JC team used a strong defensive effort and a versatile offensive attack to keep their hosts off balance and quickly build a two-set lead.
