The Blanco Panthers only needed one strong quarter offensively to bring home their third win of the season, while the defense held strong denying Luling any thoughts of an Eagle victory. Although Blanco had some success moving the ball, turnovers and stalled drives put an end to several Panther possessions. The first quarter of play proved to be uneventful, as both teams simply traded field position.
The Lady Panther volleyball team fell 0-3 to a solid Bandera Bulldog team on Tuesday, September 8 with set scores of 9-25, 24-26, and 15-25. Malyn Valliant led the Panther with 10 kills, 2 aces and 10 digs. Gracie Edmondson nailed 3 blocks and Emily Struck smacked 2 aces. Hannah Hulburt set 11 assists.
The Blanco varsity volleyball team soundly defeated the Cole Lady Cougars, 3-0, with set scores of 25-19, 26-24, and 25-14 Tuesday, September 1. Malyn Valliant was on fire, slamming 16 kills. Andrea Calzoncit hit 4 service aces. Hannah Hulburt made 16 assists. Shayna Srackangast and Carly Haack each had 7 digs.
The Blanco Panthers' home opener this past Friday went as planned with a strong showing on both sides of the ball as Blanco defeated rival Comfort 27 to 7. With the exception of a couple of turnovers preventing the margin of victory from being much larger, the outcome of the game was never in doubt. The Panthers opened the game with a 13 play, 68 yard drive, eating up over 7 minutes off the clock before QB Jordon Wagner plunged in for the TD from a yard out.
The Blanco Panther junior varsity football team traveled to Comfort to take on the Bobcats Thursday evening, September 3. After a strong first game last Thursday, there was no doubt that there would be excitement and anticipation this week. Blanco kicked off to start the game as a host of Panthers consumed the receiver at Comfort's own 30-yard line.
Led by junior Drew Ritter and sophomore Mark Kuebel, BHS UIL academic team members finished the year tied for fourth place overall at the state meet last week at UT Austin. Ritter brought home the state championship in informative speaking and finished second in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Kuebel was this year's individual state champion in computer science.
For the final two months of the school year, members of the Blanco FFA chapter have traveled to three different locations across the state to compete in six different State FFA Career Development Events. Senior Blanco FFA member Logan Dodd was recently awarded the Area VII FFA Association "John Justin Standard of the West" award after winning the same honor on the district level and then interviewing at the Area VII Convention and Degree Check at Madison High School in San Antonio. Each year, one FFA member from each area is selected as a state finalist for the John Justin award.
Friday night lights Llano style, minus the lights, in the old Llano Stadium known now as the "Dauber Dome". The old stadium stood proud once again as the 2015 version of Powder Puff Football took place on the grass and weed field from days gone by. It was going back to a time where football was just a game played for fun in a stadium with stone and grass bleachers.
The Llano FFA Livestock and Meats teams competed at the State contest on Saturday, May 2nd at Texas A&M in College Station. The State contest is comprised of the top 15% of teams from each of the ten areas in the state. The Livestock team finished 6th at state out of 92 total teams.
