The Blanco Panther band performed to a superior level in all facets of competition this school year. A celebration of these accomplishments was held at the 1st Annual Band Banquet on Monday, May 11. After a barbecue dinner, presentations were made by Head Band Director, Brian Hecimovich. Each student received their State Sweepstakes patch for the band winning Sweepstakes with Division I ratings in Marching, Concert, and Sightreading.
Blanco High School musicians have shown their mettle in competition. "As can imagine it was a stressful weekend for everybody in the area," said Brian Hecimovich, Blanco ISD's Head Band Director. "However, we were able to still compete in the Texas State UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition. Even with all the stress, we had the best results in Blanco High School History." The Blanco Elementary School Millionaire Accelerated Readers celebrated their achievement by eating lunch at the Chess Club and watching a book-based movie on Tuesday June 2. The 29 millionaires each read at least one million words this school year. Six of the fifth grade students read over two million words each.
The 2015 Blanco Spring Band Concert for the fifth, sixth, and seventh grade bands was held on Tuesday, June 2 at the BHS cafeteria. The fifth grade band played four selections, including a favorite, Let's Rock arranged by Michael Sweeney. The sixth grade band performed three musical selections, concluding with Firestorm by Rob Grice.
The 2015 Blanco Panther basketball camp was held at the BHS gym June 8 through June 11. High school girl's basketball coach, Stuart Schultz, and boy's basketball coach, Derrick Hernandez, taught the campers basic basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, and shooting. Assisting the coaches were Jamie McClinton, Tyler Schlinke, and Kendall Brock.

The Blanco High School UIL Academic Team won the Region IV AAA Championship for the third year in a row last Friday and Saturday at Texas State University. The team edged out Lago Vista once again, 175-159. Hebbronville (136), Industrial (116), and Poth (95) followed. The mathematics and computer science teams were crowned regional champions and will represent Blanco at the state meet.
The Blanco FFA Chapter began a busy three-week schedule this past week as they traveled to Stephenville to compete in the State FFA Career Development Events hosted by Tarleton State University. The Blanco FFA qualified teams in 4 of the 6 events, with 23 students representing Blanco. In the Homesite Evaluation event, Blanco placed 2nd overall and will be advancing to the National FFA Contest in Oklahoma City on May 7th.
