The middle school district tennis tournament was held Saturday, May 8 at the Ingram High School tennis courts. Earlier this spring semester, BHS senior Mason Groff signed a commitment to play football at Angelo State University. Groff will play interior offensive line, either guard or center, for the Rams. Groff received first team all-district honors for both offensive and defensive line this past fall. He will report to ASU in June for summer camp.
Presley Young, BHS senior, was invited to play in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game May 13 at Paul Taylor Arena in Northside ISD in San Antonio. Young played on the Aqua team and scored seven points. The Aqua team defeated the Purple team 80-73. Young, right, is pictured with Blanco girls basketball coach Matt Karnes.
The Blanco baseball team’s season came to a close in the area round of the playoffs with a defeat in the best-of-three series to Hallettsville. The Brahmas took the series 2-1. Hallettsville opened with a 8-6 win Friday in the first game of the series, played at New Braunfels Canyon High School.
The Blanco High School band gave out awards at its spring concert this month.
The Blanco baseball team won the bi-district playoff championship, defeating Nixon-Smiley 5-1 and 3-0 in the best-of-three series Friday at Marion High School. The Blanco boys golf team will compete at the Class 3-A UIL State Golf Tournament Monday and Tuesday at Shadow Glen Golf Club in Manor. Jacob Gallas, pictured, will join his teammates, Trayton Preiss, Jake Broyles, Mitchell Dalland, Wyatt Ledesma and Cooper Berne, in their quest for hardware. The team is coached by Jake Raley.
