The Blanco cross country team officially started its season with a meet at Our Lady of the Hills High School in Kerrville Saturday, Aug. 14. Blanco hosted Geneva in its opening scrimmage last week.

Blanco volleyball practice kicked off last week and included scrimmages. The first games were played after press time Tuesday.
Practice is underway for the Blanco football team, which opens its season the last Friday of August.
Three track athletes from the Blanco Track Club have qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Humble this week. Rhyder Nelson qualified in two events, turbo javelin and high jump. Sidney Johnson and Caroline Seymour both qualified in the javelin. Cameron Nelson coaches the Blanco Track Club members. Practice for the club began in March.
The Blanco Panther football team was picked to finish second in District 13-3A, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. The annual preview picked defending champion Llano to repeat in the district, followed by Blanco as the runner-up. The magazine picked Lago Vista to finish third, followed by Comfort in fourth place and Luling in fifth place. The Blanco FFA program has recently completed improvements to its show barn located at the high school. As part of the project, all of the old pens in the barn were removed and the barn was given a thorough cleaning. The dirt floor was leveled and compacted, and then a brand new set of pens was installed.
