The Lady Panthers put another mark in the win column Friday, Oct. 4 against the Lago Vista Lady Vikings, after falling to the Johnson City Lady Eagles Tuesday, Oct. 1. Blanco defeated the Vikings 3-1 with set scores 25-15, 15-25, 25-14, 25-14. The Eagles outscored the Panthers 3-0 with set scores 25-18, 25-20, 25-21. The Panthers bounced back against the Vikings with good passes that increased the kill count for the team.
The Blanco Panther Band competed at the Hill Country Marching Contest at Fredericksburg High School Saturday, Sept. 28. The Blanco band performed their 2019 show Cryptomundial by Luke McMillan. The band won 1st Place Best Overall 3A Band, as well as, 1st Place 3A Marching, 1st Place 3A Music and 1st Place 3A Drumline.
With a 3-1 win over the Georgetown Gateway Lady Gators Friday, Sept. 27 and a 3-0 victory against the Florence Lady Buffalo Tuesday, Sept. 24, the Panthers improved their conference record to 7-0, remaining undefeated in District 25-3A. Blanco is tied with Johnson City, also 7-0 in district. Lago Vista is in third place with a 5-2 record.
The Panther varsity football team had a short trip to Canyon Lake High School to take on the Hawks for a Friday, Sept. 27 showdown. Captains for the Panthers were Christian Flores, Luke Biggs, Seth Blakeslee, and Landon Burt. The Panthers won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. After a holding call against the Hawks on the kick-off, the Panther defense came out strong.
The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 record in District 25-3A competition this past week. Blanco hosted, the always competitive, Lago Vista Lady Vikings Tuesday, Sept. 3. Blanco took the win 3-1. The Panthers traveled to Austin Friday, Sept. 6 to play the IDEA Montopolis Bulldogs, a college preparatory school new to the district this year.
The Board of Trustees of the Blanco Independent School District convened for the regular August meeting on Monday, August 12. With the entire board present, the meeting began with the approval of the consent agenda. The Superintendent’s Report began with the announcement of BISD’s accountability rating for 2019. After working for six years as the high school’s Student Success Coordinator, working with at-risk students, Amy Hackebeil has moved into a new role as the district’s Academic Dean. “Mr. Rosenbaum helped me understand that in this new role, I would be able to reach every student on campus by serving their teachers,” She said.
Bryan Wyatt has spent a lot of time on the baseball diamond, both as a player and as a coach. He won his seventh Men’s Senior Baseball League World Series championship ring in October as a member of the San Antonio Bombers Baseball Club and coached the Panthers to the State Championship final in June. Wyatt started playing with the San Antonio Bombers in 1996 at the age of 38.
Eddie Calzoncit, Jr. must have felt very comfortable playing on the field at Dell Diamond in Round Rock Saturday, June 15. In the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 2A-3A-4A All-Star Game he continued with the same hot bat he had there in the state tournament the previous week.
The State Championship game should be close – a contest between the best two teams in the state of Texas. This is exactly what the Conference AAA championship game between the Blanco Panthers and the Wall Hawks turned out to be – a nail-biter, a low-scoring game decided by a one run difference.
