Lady Panther Volleyball Team Starts District 2-0
Defeat Vikings and Bulldogs

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 record in District 25-3A competition this past week. Blanco hosted, the always competitive, Lago Vista Lady Vikings Tuesday, Sept. 3. Blanco took the win 3-1. The Panthers traveled to Austin Friday, Sept. 6 to play the IDEA Montopolis Bulldogs, a college preparatory school new to the district this year. The Panthers won 3-0.

Against Lago Vista the set scores were 25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16. Presley Young led the team with 14 kills. Kora Brock connected for 11 kills. Emilee LaRue smacked eight kills, with Olivia Atchley and Carly Romero each adding four. Atchley set the ball for 34 assists. Hannah Griffin made four assists. Young, LaRue and Lynette Aelvoet each had one assist. Brock led the team with four aces, with Atchley hitting three. Young served two aces and LaRue and Griffin each served one ace. Defensively, Young and Griffin made 20 digs each. Atchley had 13 digs, LaRue, 11, Brock, seven, Aelvoet, seven, and Raylee Faris, three. Brock scored on four blocks, with Faris adding two.

The junior varsity defeated the Vikings 2-1 with set scores 23-25, 25-22, 25-14. Haleigh Charles paced the team with four kills, followed closely by Lily Porter and Catherine Seymour with three kills each. Alexia Lopez, Kendall Kramer and Jaycie Gloor each made one kill. Seymour set the ball for five assists and Porter made three assists. Gloor served two aces. Lopez, Porter, Seymour and Lauren Anderson each served one ace. Gloor led the team with 20 digs, followed closely by Lopez with 16. Porter made 12 digs. Anna Beliveau had six stops. Seymour made five digs, Anderson, four, and Savannah Greene, three. Charles made her presence known at the net making two blocks.

The freshmen team also was victorious against Lago Vista, with a 2-1 win. Set scores were 24-26, 25-22, 25-21. Peyton West led the team with seven kills and six aces. Cassidy Daves led the team defensively with 21 digs, and added four kills and two aces on offense. Dianka Edwards made six sets for assists, two kills, one ace and five digs. Marissa Ruiz had 13 digs and one kill. Rylee Davis served four aces, and added one assist and one dig. Lexi Nevarez made seven digs. Riley Edmondson contributed three kills, one assist, one ace and eight digs. Kelly Karnes hit two kills and made one dig. Grayci Jung hit one kill, made one assist and four digs.

The varsity overwhelmed IDEA Montopolis with set scores 25-7, 25-4, 25-10. LaRue led the Panthers with seven kills. Atchley and Faris hit five kills each. Brock and Young both added four kills. Emma Srackangast made three kills. Griffin and Casey Eskew each scored with a kill. Atchley set the ball for 18 assists. Griffin made three assists, and Aelvoet had two. Young was on fire from the service line with eight aces. Srackangast scored with six aces, followed closely by LaRue and Toni Daniels with five each. Griffin led the team with three digs and also served three aces. Brock and Atchley each served two aces, with Kirbee Callaway serving one ace. LaRue made two digs, with Atchley and Young adding one each. Atchley, Romero and Faris each hit one block.

Following an open date Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Panthers clash with the Manor New Tech Titans Friday, Sept. 13. Games are scheduled at New Tech with the junior varsity beginning at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 Blanco takes another road trip with a match at Jarrell High School against the Cougars. The freshmen and junior varsity teams play at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6 p.m.
