Celiac disease is a problem some people have with foods that contain gluten. Gluten is a type of protein. It's found in the grains wheat, barley, rye, and triticale (a wheat-rye cross). When you have this disease and you eat food with gluten in it, the gluten triggers an immune response that is not normal.

We had 15 golfers show up for the 10/14 Scramble, and they were formed up into four teams. We teed off promptly at 5:00pm, and by 7:00pm the teams began returning to the club house to post their scores. It appears that the skill balance between the teams was pretty closely matched, since 3 of the 4 teams carded a score of 4 under par.

****NEWS NOTES**** Mature Driver Program Coordinator, Debbie Tahiri' will be speaking to us at the Mason Senior Center Thursday morning, October 22nd at 11:00AM. Ms. Tahiri will speak about traffic safety educational opportunities. The talk will include the effects of aging on driving and the problems and common challenges aging drivers might face.

Mason Fall Arts Festival is coming up on October 31, 11-4 p.m. with Hill Country artists and musicians set up around the Historic Mason Square. The festival will feature talented artists like Judy Row from Wimberley, providing not only amazing artwork, but also demonstrations and activities to try your hand as an artist. Judy Row is a well-known fiber artist from the Hill Country who has had many years of experience in her field.

Keep Emeth Bauer in your prayers. He has been hospitalized with pneumonia and heart problems. Hopefully, surgery will help with the heart problems soon. Pastor John Alsbrooks is having voice trouble. Stephen Mutschink brought the message Sunday. Our lay leaders will continue with the sermons until his voice is better. We wish him a speedy, if silent, recovery period.

While I like to keep my articles light hearted and humorous, sometimes it's a sad time. This is a sad time for me, as my sister Jo Jo passed away. While I knew the time was close, it hit with just as hard a punch. I didn't want Jo Jo to have to linger and suffer anymore, there was that hope in my heart that she'd pull through. I referred to Jo Jo, as the Timex watch.
