Week two of Mason’s first-ever Science STEM career immersion summer camp, hosted by The Science Mill, was completed last week for the 6th-8th grades. This wonderful experience was made possible through a very generous donation to The Science Mill to benefit students from grades 3rd-8th. This year’s summer camps both had a secret agent theme where campers completed top secret missions centered on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities.
Two incoming seniors for Mason High School varsity football were recently named to a San Angelo Standard-Times Top-10 preseason watchlist for their respective positions. For the offensive lineman watchlist, the Punchers’ reliable Milam Mayfield had his name listed following a very successful 2020 season as a junior. Two former Mason High School varsity baseball players were recognized late last week on the 2021 Texas Sports Writers Association Class 2A All-State Baseball Team. Punchers pitcher Colby Brown and second baseman Cody McBee, both Class of 2021 graduates at Mason, were selected as honorable mentions for Class 2A following outstanding seasons. Brown, who was the very reliable senior ace on the mound throughout the season for the Punchers, had a great 8-1 record in 17 games pitched.

The Mason High School boys and girls varsity cross country teams will open up their 2021 season in less than a month as the Punchers and Cowgirls unveiled their meet schedule earlier this week. After early morning practice throughout the month of August, Mason will have its first official meet of the year on Wednesday, Aug.
On June 30, a contingency of community members representing Mason County, Mason ISD, and Frontera Healthcare Network welcomed Dr. Jeramy Gibson, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Sam Hogue, Interim Dept. Head for Primary Care & Population Health, Dr. Amy Waer, Dean and Executive Dean for Education and Academic Programs from the Texas A&M College of Medicine (TAMUCOM) in Bryan, Texas.

For the 2021 All-West Texas Softball Team compiled by the San Angelo Standard-Times, the Cowgirls were represented very well by junior Tara Bolley, junior Tristin Keller, and freshman Kamryn Loeffler. The Mason High School varsity football team is already less than two months away from taking the field for live-action games in pads as the Punchers unveiled their 2021 schedule. To begin the 2021 preseason, the Punchers will travel on Friday, Aug. 13 for a road scrimmage against nearby Llano High School and will return home on Thursday, Aug.
It seems like just yesterday that Mason High School’s class of 2021 received their diplomas and charged into the next phase of their lives, but the district already is planning for next school year amid all the uncertainty that the coronavirus brings. “I think our students really rose to the challenge and have been working hard academically throughout the year,” said Stan Whittle, Mason Independent School District superintendent.
