With the general hunting season for white-tailed deer underway, landowners and hunters are reminded to use caution on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
“Many Texans have died in ATV-related accidents,” Will Frey, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said. “ATVing is a popular way to get around the farm, ranch or deer lease, but that convenience also comes with a certain risk.”
There are about 650 deaths and 100,000 injuries each year involving ATVs, according to the U.S.
All Legionnaires and interested veterans are invited to our monthly meeting this Friday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Please note the change of date from Thursday to Friday due to the football game this week.

A sharp eyed reader found an error in the listing of Mason County Sheriffs in the history of the Mason County Jail, as published in last week's Hunters' & Visitors' Guide.
Francis Kettner was sheriff from May 1861 to August 1862. There is documentation from Stella Gipson Polk’s book, Mason and Mason County: A History that has as a source Kathryn Buford Eilers, B.A and her book A History of Mason County, Texas Thesis Aug.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on October 28, 2019 at the MISD Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Cole Farmer, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Ryan Jordan, Mary Donaldson and Kathryn Martin in attendance.

Ask any veteran deer hunter if they can remember their first hunt and I’m sure it brings back many fond memories. They will remember who they were with, the weather, the anticipation, the excitement of spotting a deer, the joy and relief of a successful shot, or the dismay of an opportunity missed.
Operation Orphans, Inc. enjoyed the first hunt of its 60th season, October 25th and 26th. Six child residential homes brought 30 girls to Camp Gene Ashby eager to participate in the “Take a Child Hunting” program. Homes taking part were Boys and Girl’s Country, Hockley; Foster’s Home, Stephenville; Medina Home, Medina; Methodist Home, Waco; Presbyterian Home, Itasca, and Texas Baptist Home, Round Rock.
Boss Lion Michael Murphy gaveled the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. at Nacho’s Café on October 29. We had one visitor, the lovely and talented Monica Hinckley. Boss Lion Michael had a few announcements-Christmas Party December 17 and next week, November 6 will be an all-hands-on-deck effort for the Blue-ribbon day’s hamburger cook.
