The Mason High School varsity football team was dealt another tough loss at home on Friday, September 11 when San Saba High School caught fire late in the second half as the Punchers fell 32-0 to the Armadillos at the Puncherdome. From the opening snap, the Punchers knew they faced an uphill climb when they, unfortunately, had to be without the services of two of their best players vs.
The 32nd Annual Mason Bank Golf Tournament was held Saturday, September 12th. Winners of the tournament were: Patsy Brandenberger, James Toeppich, Matt Biggs, Daniel Parker, and Tom Schooley. Placing Second in the Mason Bank Tournament were: Bear Henrich, Craig Henrich, Jeffrey Williams, Aaron Reardon, and Tom Latham (not pictured). Although the Mason High School varsity football team got off to a superb start in their first road game of the season, the shorthanded Punchers struggled to keep up with Comfort High School in the second half as the host Bobcats pulled away to a 30-6 victory to drop the Punchers to 0-2 overall. On Saturday last, a ceremonial Ribbon Cutting took place at Fort McKavett State Historic Site sponsored by the Mason County Chamber of Commerce. Even though Fort McKavett SHS has been open and operating for several decades, they recently joined the Chamber Membership and the ceremony was held in the spirit of welcoming the Site into the fold. The event was occasioned by the unveiling of a new rotating exhibit.

Farmers and ranchers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic are encouraged to sign up for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) by Sept. 11. “There is still funding left, and many farmers and ranchers in our area could really use the help,” Mason County Farm Bureau President Will Frey said.
At Monday morning's Mason County Commissioners' Court, the retirement of Sheriff Buster Nixon was accepted by the Court. They then voted to appoint Chief Deputy Joe Lancaster, the presumptive Sheriff and only candidate for the office in the general election, as Mason County Sheriff and he was sworn in, beginning his official duties on September 1.
