Fredericksburg business owners hold “profit share” weekend for hospital
The Washburne family, owners of Side Street Hospitality in Fredericksburg, held a “profit share weekend” on May 29 in support of the Hill Country Memorial Foundation.
A percentage of gross sales from Hoffman Haus, Tubby’s, Otto’s, La Bergerie, and Caliche Coffee were designated for the Foundation.
We will start spraying between the hours of 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm. Please try to stay indoors during these times. This Product (Delta Guard) we are spraying is safe for animals and People. We want to thank everyone for their cooperation in advance in keeping Mason safe!!!

Desaree Bowie, a member of the Mason FFA Chapter, was recently recognized during the Virtual State Convention for receiving her FFA Lone Star Degree. The Lone Star Degree is awarded to members meeting a series of requirements through FFA participation and leadership. Three years of record books are evaluated at the local, area, and state level for approval.
Jarrett Worrell of Mason recently attended the Jr National Hereford Expo in Kansas City, Missouri. Jarrett had a really good week.
He was chosen as the Grand Champion Showman in the Junior Division. he competed against 120 other contestants for this honor. Jarrett was also awarded the Prospect Award. This award is chosen by a panel of judges that evaluated an application and written essay.
Sadly, we will be canceling Old Yeller Day this year due to the Corona Virus. This annual event brings together people from all over the state and we are disappointed to have to cancel, but we will continue to host Old Yeller Day next year. We would like to thank our vendors, performers, and volunteers who always make this event a success.
Mason Community Kitchen’s frozen meals will be available to families with children on request at the office of St. Joseph Catholic Church during regular hours, Wednesday through Friday, 9 A.M. till 5 P.M., until the school lunch program resumes on August 18. The meals will include beef with macaroni and cheese (beef goulash), Santa Fe soup with beef, beans, tomatoes and taco seasoning, and lasagna soup with pizza sausage, penne pasta, spinach and tomato sauce.
First let me say that all the landowners that filed a protest about Agricultural Valuations (Ag Values) on their properties are NOT opposed to paying their fair share of the tax burden. We ARE opposed to not being given a reasonable answer to why Proposed Values for Native Pastureland increased anywhere from 40% to 60% between 2019 and 2020.
I started writing this article about our side of the story and realized Mason County News would need a whole lot more paper and ink!

Last week, the Mason County Chamber of Commerce welcomed its newest member, Leifeste Law, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. Leifeste Law is owned by Whitney Leifeste who is an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Texas for 25 years. Her practice covers a broad range of legal services, including family law, estate planning, probate, real estate, contract law, business transactions, and general litigation.
