Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library was awarded a $2,500 grant from the Texas Book Festival this year. Every year, the Texas Book Festival gives collection enhancement grants to libraries across the state. The funds received this year will go towards enhancing Mason County Library’s Junior section of books.
At Monday's regular meeting of the Mason County Commissioners' Court, the group made preparations for the upcoming courthouse restoration project by obtaining space for offices while the construction is underway. The County has already entered into discussions with the City of Mason to make use of the Richard P. Eckert Civic Center for office space while the Courthouse is being restored.
With the City of Mason actively working to provide a new Landfill for the current and future needs of our community, Mason Bank has become a full partner in the project by providing the funding that can make this happen. On August 12 the final steps were taken and Mason Bank purchased the entire bond issue of Certificates of Obligation from the City providing $1,800,000 to pay for all of the construction costs for this new project.

AUSTIN – The U.S. Census Bureau’s Central Texas team will launch its STOP THE KNOCK campaign during the week of August 2-9. The campaign is designed to encourage residents to respond to the Census now to lessen the possibility of a Census employee knocking on their door later in the month of August.
While conducting aerial surveys for desert bighorn sheep in West Texas on Saturday, Aug. 8, three Texas Parks and Wildlife Department employees died in a helicopter crash on TPWD’s Black Gap Wildlife Management Area in Brewster County. One of the victims was Dr. Robert “Bob” Dittmar, a State Wildlife Veterinarian and 1979 graduate of Texas A&M University.
The following letter from Mason High School Principal, Kade Burns, explains the campus safety policy to begin the 2020-2021 school year. Parents, Mason ISD is hard at work looking at the safety measures we can take to protect our students and staff this year. We have gone to great lengths to make changes to our normal routine and we wanted to get this information to you and your children prior to the start of the year.
The Puncher Club met for the first time this past week. We are the organization that supports both the Cowgirls and Punchers in the Mason community. Our membership drive is underway. We would like to collect the dues and forms as soon as possible because we want to recognize the individuals and businesses in our football program.
Attention to all parents of junior high football players, junior high football equipment pick-up will be Wednesday, August 12th from 6-7 p.m. at the junior high gym. At that time your child will pick-up the necessary equipment for the beginning of the football season. There will be coaches available to help properly size your child with equipment. Also, your child needs to have our athletic policy signed and returned before they are able to participate in any sports for our program.
Since the 2017 inception of the Texas Water Ambassador Leadership Academy, the Hickory UWCD has offered scholarships to local students interested in participating. The Leadership Academy is a 10-day tour of Texas exposing youth to a wide diversity of water resources, water uses, sensitive research ecosystems, water quality concerns, as well as applied water and technologies. (Editor's Note: Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting with Fr. Red Blevins, newly arrived in Mason. I asked him to introduce himself to the Mason community.) Howdy, Mason County! I am Fr. Red Blevins and I am the new priest at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Having grown up in a small town in Northeast Arkansas, I am excited to get out of the city and in many ways, return to my roots.
