Thursday night was a farewell and a new welcome to a Llano business on the corner of Main Street and Ford Street. Michael Virdell and his wife Kay have sold Main Street Affairs after five years to Brittany Baker and her husband, Chuck. After a brief closure next week, the Wine Bar will reopen as The Barrel House, offering Texas wines and craft beers, along with a section of California wines.
The Christmas Lighting Committee met last Thursday, to discuss the plans for the Rock’N Riverfest. They discussed the barbeque cookoff. The prizes will be 80% pay back; that is, 80% of the money collected from the cookoff entry fees will be split between the top three winners.
A reminder to the kids that want to go into the “Kid’s Rides” area that they will need to purchase a $10 wrist band and keep it on all day.
On Monday, May 10, the Commissioners addressed the regulations governing animal control in Llano County. Commissioner Linda Raschke and Matt Rienstra have spent approximately one and a half years making sure that it meets current standards and is in clear language. The terminology is now clearly explained. The list of the Schedule of Fees is also included for the first time.
Llano City Council held a workshop on Monday, June 10, the topic being utility rates. Mayor Gail Lang started off by saying, “I don’t want us to go off willy-nilly and lower rates this month and raise them again next month.” Mayor Pro-Tem, Sammy Leverett, agreed with the mayor and stated that the Council needs to, “Agree on how we want to structure it before we start.” This will give them direction on what they want to accomplish.
On Monday, June 10, Main Street Advisory Board announced that Main Street Affairs has been bought by Chuck and Brittany Baker. They will open on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. as “The Barrel House.” The shop is in the process of obtaining their full liquor license. The Barrel House will be featured in a later edition of The Llano News.
The board welcomed their new member Alecia Williams.
On Saturday, June 1 at approximately 3:40 p.m., Burnet County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the scene of a reported job site accident involving two fatalities on undeveloped land near State Highway 71 and Twisted Oaks Drive (south of Horseshoe Bay near the Llano County line). Upon arrival, deputies met with personnel from the Marble Falls Area EMS, who confirmed that two workers had been killed.

In a special called meeting on Thursday, May 30, the City Council approved ordering the components for the splash pad that was destroyed in the October 16 flood. Director of Public Works, Eugene Long, said that the splash pad should be up and running six to seven weeks after everything has been ordered.
On Monday, June 3 Cristy Vaught discussed action regarding FEMA floodplain maps with City Council. According to Vaught, FEMA does not want to update the maps for all of Llano County. The map does not reflect current tributaries. “We just want something accurate,” stated Vaught. She suggested that the council send a letter to FEMA in support of the Commissioners Court.

It began with a sign in the Llano Post Office inviting anyone who wanted to knit (or learn how) to meet in the FUEL Coffee House. Four ladies attended that first session on June 1, 2009. By the second week, the number had doubled. And, now, 10 years later, you can walk into FUEL on any Monday afternoon and find it full of knitters and crocheters, bright colors of yarn spread across the tables, needles and hooks clicking away…and lots of laughter!

Llano Alliance for Drug Intervention (LADI) gave $5000 to the Boys and Girls Club. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Scantlin of Sugar Land, Texas sent $500 which LADI voted to begin the collections for the Dale Fry Memorial Youth Camp Fund.
