The Rock’N Riverfest will be this Saturday, July 6, at Badu Park on the Llano River. If you come, you will have a great time. For the kids, there will be an area with multiple rides from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. A $10 wrist band is required to experience the rides.
The Kingsland Masonic Lodge # 1424 invited Commissioner Mike Sandoval to attend their Lodge dinner July 1 prior to the start of their monthly meeting, where they presented the Commissioner, who is on the Board of Directors of the Kingsland Boys & Girls Club, a check for $1,000 toward the Kingsland Club summer meals program.
The first thing on the agenda for the Council was discussion and possible action regarding Change Orders to the street paving project and direction to staff regarding paving project completion options. These Change Orders are to address issues that came up during the process of the work. The City of Llano experienced large amounts of rain during this process, which caused many of the streets to deteriorate to worse conditions than when the project was designed.
Commissioner Mike Sandoval, Precinct 3, said the TxDOT’s 2019 Grant application for safe routes to school (SRTS) must be submitted by August 15. Sidewalks will be built along RR 2900 and RR 1431 to serve Packsaddle Elementary and Kingsland School. Commissioners are set to review the application on July 22 to approve before submission. The Court approved to support efforts to preserve night skies.
On Monday, June 24, Llano ISD School Board approved the acceptance of a donation from The White Family Foundation in the amount of $25,000 to the Llano Elementary School Library.  The grant money will be used to fund “The Dream Space” within the Library to create a welcoming environment where students enjoy reading, working with mentors and researching at Llano Elementary School. On June 6, Judge Evan Stubbs sentenced former Bertram Chief of Police, James J. (J.J.) Wilson to four days in jail on each of two cases of official oppression, and five years’ probation on one count of Abuse of Official Capacity. The plea was part of an agreement between the defendant’s attorney, Bristol Myers, and the 424th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
A representative from the Northland Cable Company reported that they are in the process of upgrading their infrastructure. They have five stations and are adding six more. They are making improvements and expanding the internet service in Llano and also upgrading signal power. Because of all the improvements, they asked that the tap fee be reduced.
The Christmas Lighting Committee met last Thursday, to discuss the plans for the Rock’N Riverfest. They discussed the barbeque cookoff. The prizes will be 80% pay back; that is, 80% of the money collected from the cookoff entry fees will be split between the top three winners. A reminder to the kids that want to go into the “Kid’s Rides” area that they will need to purchase a $10 wrist band and keep it on all day.
On Father's Day weekend, members of the Texas Indian Hobbyist Association (TIHA) returned to Llano after a 14-year absence. The Kuykendall Arena and Event Center was a major draw to the association leadership. "Our membership has fond memories of camping and dancing on the banks of the Llano River," said Chairman, Brian Belding of Cypress, Texas.
