A plaque inscribed “In loving memory of Coach James Ross Leonard – forever in our hearts and stands” was recently dedicated to honor the loyal Eagle fan. Members of the family of James Ross Leonard (Class of 1998) were on hand as coaches and students from JCISD dedicated a plaque in his honor in the LBJ High School gym where he spent countless Tuesday and Friday nights watching his beloved Lady Eagles. Leonard, who passed away April 9th, scored the go-ahead basket for the 1947 Johnson City Eagles in the Class B State Basketball Championship Game and went on to a successful coaching career in girls’ basketball and track.
