Elnora Kneese, a long-time resident of Johnson City, celebrated her 99th birthday last week at the Granite Mesa Health care facility in Marble Falls. The fire truck visited with flashing lights, and a cake was also presented to Kneese. Family and friends visited her with through the window.
Eagle Antonio Perez clocked the fastest time in the Boys’ Division (12:33.0) to establish the course record in last Wednesday’s inaugural LBJMS Eagle Nation Cross Country Invitational on the LBJ High School campus. Lady Eagle Jackie Earley (12:43.0) finished second in the Girls’ Division with teammate Riley Birck (14:42.0) joining her in the top ten with an 8th Place finish.
With JC and Ozona sidelined on Friday the rest of District 14-2A D1 began to sort itself out with Harper and perennial powerhouse Mason each picking up their second win after 0-4 starts. Harper bested Brackett 34-6; Mason topped Center Point 48-7. The wins put the two teams at the top of the district standings as they prepare to face off on Friday in Harper with one team destined to have their winning streak cut short. Lead district one game into second round
The Varsity Lady Eagles picked up two significant wins on the road last week in back-to-back three set victories. At Medina on Tuesday Ivy Swafford had eight aces and 20 assists to lead JC to a 25-10, 25-5, 25-10 victory closing out the first round of district play. Paige Dalland had eleven kills and 1 block; Morgan Cowsert added 6 kills, 6 aces and 1 block.
JCISD Superintendent Richard Kolek notified parents on Sunday of three reported positive tests for COVID-19 on the LBJHS Campus. In the release, he outlined procedures the District developed under the guidance of the Texas Education Agency to address such issues. Kolek stated: “We are working closely with the local health department on this matter.
The Lady Eagle Varsity Volleyball team returned to the court from an open date September 17th by hosting 6A Temple last Tuesday and outgunned the Lady Wildcats 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-13). Back in district play on Friday the Lady Eagles (11-5, 4-0) scored their fifth consecutive 3-0 shut-out as they routed San Antonio - Stacey (25-5, 25-9, 25-5). In arguably their toughest test this season the Johnson City Eagles came up short early and often as their cross-county rival Blanco Panthers rolled to a 63-7 victory at Eagle Field Friday night. The Panthers - winners of sixteen of the last seventeen matchups between the two teams - seemed determined from kick-off to avenge last year’s loss in Johnson City Head Coach David T Sine’s first year at the helm.
Lydia and Claire White left the field behind on Saturday with their nearest competitor a half-minute off their pace in the Varsity Girls’ 2-Mike at the McNeil Invitational at Round Rock - Old Settler’s Park. The University Interscholastic League Cross Country Championships will be held on the course on November 23rd and 24th.
Upcoming: Homecoming Showdown with Blanco Rivals
The Varsity Eagles fought back from a 21-7 third quarter deficit, but ran out of clock in their 21-16 home loss to the Thrall Tigers on Friday. Quarterback Cade Boyer had 158 yards passing including a touchdown to Nathan Axtell and 92 yards rushing with one touchdown to lead the Eagles offense.
