The Johnson City Chamber of Commerce has been working since last summer to put together a fundraising event unlike any other they have hosted in the past. SAVOR the Hill Country, scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, will showcase the Hill Country’s incredible culinary talent alongside an impressive collection of award winning wineries, breweries, and distilleries, with all proceeds benefiting Johnson City Chamber of Commerce community projects and the establishment of a scholarship fund. ...
Johnson City hosted the Comfort Bobcats last Tuesday, and sent all three Bobcat teams back home with a loss. The Varsity won in high-scoring fashion, JC 87, Comfort 77, and both JV teams secured a victory. JC started strong against Comfort’s press, scoring a season high 31 points in the first quarter, and carried the attack into half-time, leading 49 to 38.
Since flu season started in October 2017, over three-thousand Texans are reported to have tested positive for influenza according to the Texas Department of State Health services. The Johnson City Varsity Boys competed in the Annual Comfort Christmas Tournament, playing five games in three days. The Eagles finished fourth out of ten teams, with three wins and two losses. Johnson City met Mason on Thursday to begin tournament play. The Eagles took control early, finishing the first half with the lead, score JC 37, Punchers 14.
Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, was the last day Democratic or Republican party candidates could file an application for a place on the state primary ballot. Filing applications for a place on a local general election ballot starts Jan. 17, 2018, and ends Feb. 16, 2018. One-hundred-eight pounds of marijuana were found during a traffic stop in Johnson City on Wednesday, Dec. 21 resulting in the second degree felony arrests of three people from California. Thursday Dec. 21 was a joyful day for the Johnson City Library. President, Donna Cummings and Treasurer, Alan Dean, of the Board of Trustees presented a check to the Johnson City Bank’s loan officer Barbara Schmidt that paid the building loan in full. This is the library’s ninth year in the building and much planning and fundraising was done before moving in.
Johnson City hosted the Florence Buffaloes on Tuesday, for the second district game of the year. All three boy’s teams finished victoriously, JV-B winning 58-31, JV-A winning 48-26, and the Varsity winning 58-53.
