After three hours of deliberation in closed session, the City Council and Randy Holland came to a mutual agreement to end his employment as Johnson City Chief of Police at a special meeting held on Nov. 27 at Johnson City, City Hall.
Holland accepted voluntary administrative leave effective until June 13, 2018 on which date he will honorably retire from Johnson City Police Department.
Three more Eagles are headed to Camp Pendleton in San Diego after graduation. Cole Cowsert, Tony Medrano and Colt Kneese have joined the Marines and leave for San Diego shortly after they graduate.
Cole Cowsert, who graduates in December, will be the first of the three headed to bootcamp in February of 2018.
Johnson City’s annual Thanksgiving weekend celebration kicked off with lunch at the First United Methodist Church for about 200 diners.
It was the now-traditional Free Community Thanksgiving Potluck Feast, and as usual it packed the church’s Activity Building with hungry celebrants.

This National Park Service celebration will run from 6 to 9 p.m. and will be free and open to the public.
The Johnson City Eagles traveled to Comfort on Friday for the last regular season game. They returned home victorious, defeating the Bobcats for the first time since 1995 and guaranteeing a spot in the UIL State Football playoffs. Final score: Johnson City 42, Comfort 0.

Randy Holland has been suspended as Johnson City’s Chief of Police, pending a final decision regarding his employment at the December City Council Meeting currently scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m.
On Friday, Johnson City Mayor, Dawn Capra announced that on Thursday, Nov. 9, Holland was placed on paid suspension.
The Johnson City School Board met on Nov. 13 to discuss possible changes to the grading period and calendar for the district. They also heard this year’s student snapshot and tended to routine business.

The Blanco County Commissioners met on Tuesday, Nov. 14. They opened proposals for computer aided dispatch for Sheriff deputies. They also heard a presentation from Jeffrey Law Firm about the effects of opioid use on Blanco County taxpayers and their plan to bring litigation against the pharmaceutical companies who supply the prescription drugs.

The Johnson City Library and six libraries were awarded a $75,000 grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The purpose of the grant is for smaller communities to have access to technology equipment we might not be able to afford, and to give our communities training and knowledge to work with this equipment.
The grant was written by the Bulverde Spring Branch Library and titled “Rolling Do It Yourself”.
Game Warden Sam Smith gave the invocation at Tuesday night’s city council meeting before the council convened into their regular monthly session. The Council adopted impact fees for future development and added an addendum to the most recent zoning map. Local business owners also shared their traffic concerns surrounding the Courthouse Square.
