Johnson City hosted the Gateway Preparatory Academy Gators Tuesday, Feb. 13 for the regular season finale. The Eagles won two of three games, as the Varsity finished 61 to 45, JV-B won 41 to 36, and the JV A-Team lost 27 to 46. Commissioners met on Tuesday morning for their first regular meeting of February. After a delayed start due to January’s ice day, the Discovery Academy at Johnson City Library is running at full speed after starting the Spring session last month. The City Council met Tuesday for their regular session for February 2018. During the meeting, they distributed funds to other agencies in the community and approved the general municipal election coming up in May. Outside Agency Funding City of Johnson City had a $15 thousand budget item in order to fund other local agencies that serve the community. The City received five requests for funding.
The inaugural “Savor the Hill Country,” a fundraiser for the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce, was held on Sunday, Jan. 28 at the Science Mill. An event the Chamber of Commerce reports was an overwhelming success. Texas Game Wardens are seeking information to aid in locating the person or persons responsible for illegally shooting the deer in the photo right. The head was removed and the body left to waste. The location of the incident was Cypress Mill Road in northeast Blanco County and is believed to have occurred the second week of January. Operation Game Thief, the Texas’ wildlife Crime-stoppers program, is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information regarding the incident.
The Varsity Eagles continued a district winning streak last week with a win last Tuesday against the Ingram Warriors and the Florence Buffaloes on Friday. Eagles vs. Warriors Johnson City entertained a home crowd with three wins against the Ingram Warriors last Tuesday. Starting the second round of district play, the JV B-Team won 44 to 30, JV A-Team won 46-38, and the Varsity won 45 to 37. The Warriors took a three-point lead to end the first quarter, 10-13.
